I have a 2002 automatic 2.6 petrol. A strange thing has happened a couple of time whilst driving. It normally happens when I'm accelerating from a standstill (between 1st and 2nd) and it seems to go into neutral. Well it has no drive at all. After a few seconds or if I play about moving the lever through the gears manually, it engages again and off I go. I had the gearbox checked and topped up last June using the correct methods so oil levels shouldn't be a problem - any clues please?

First thing to check is that the lights by the gear selector accurately follow the lever and don't flicker or light up simultaneously.
Has it ever showed a gearbox warning in the MID?
Any engine codes present? (try a pedal test).

This is a recurring theme on here now. Suggest you live with it - if it is just once or twice a year that it happens. You might want to change crank sensor to at least rule that out (my theory is crank sensors deteriorate over time and therefore responsible for occasional blip in signal from engine to gearbox)
