Although he has a huge team working on every aspect of the project, the guy still has a lot of guts attempting to be the first unpowered person to break the speed of sound. Lets hope he succeeds and lives to tell the tale..

Just about to say aborted due to wind... Jimbob, hold it in a while will ya? ::) ;D ;D
-
well of course its windy up there ::)
think hes a bit of a wimp really as more wind we make him go faster
-
The balloon is so delicate it can only be safely launched with the wind speed at 2mph or below. The wind speed at the top of the 700ft balloon was around 20mph.
-
two people have died trying to do previous attempts....barking
-
Good for him. :y But Kittinger deserves a mention. :y :y :y

Very well done to him and also to all of the mission and development engineers on developing the systems, to not only get him to 128kft but also for bringing him back to earth safely including the successful breaking of the sound barrier. :y :y :y :y :y :y
Very brave man for going outside the known envelope to provide new data which should help space travel and safety in the future. :y :y :y :y :y :y
-
It was just fascinating... Had a group of about 8 of us glued to it in the pub ::) :y
-
That was awesome - looks like he went into a spin for a bit but managed to correct it - maxed out at 729mph :o

I don't know if you found out already, but the balloon is jetisoned and the capusule comes back down via parachute. As to the balloon , same as a weather balloon I guess which disintegegrates from the pressure :y
-
I tought either he would lost in space or be a burnin flying man ;D
seriously there are many risks, must have serious reasons to do that :-\

He'd run out of tall buildings to jump off ::);D ;D ;D

The guy is a good old fashioned Hero! We need people like him with the drive and guts to push the boundaries beyond the 'possible' into the realms of the unknown, as without them we would still be ignorant savages eating raw meat. Oh, hang on....that's not a very good Analogy is it? ;D

this was the practice go
