Title: Bloody conmen
Post by: Elite Pete on 24 April 2008, 12:23:29
For the last few mornings my mobile has rang for approximately 2 rings and then gone off so this morning I decided to ring the 0871 No. It went straight onto answer machine so I hung up, the cost £4 so beware. The only reason I called the number is because I have a house to let so thought it might have been someone after that, once bitten twice shy :(

I never return missed calls -- if it doesn't show up with a name or number I don't recognise.  If the call was important they will call back, if not, I don't want to know !!!!!

complain to your mobile operator, at the least it raises awarness that this number is scamming, some networks block them from being dialled thus saving the risk of the expense

or have a look here .....http://www.icstis.org.uk/

Phone companies are in on the act. Who do you think sells the premium rate numbers in the first instance (and takes a cut of the takings)?  >:(

I think my number probably came off an Autotrader ad I placed recently, the calls started about then but I could be wrong.

I read recently that there are phone number 'harvesting engines' now that trawl online ads. grabbing "real" contact numbers (and corresponding e.mails)....they`re then sold-on.  >:(

I got a call just this morning from an 0871 number.  It rang only once and then went off - sort of inviting me to ring them back.

I guessed it was a con as they have rang me a few times. >:(

could have cost alot more if you'd answered the ringing call

i never answer numbers that arent familiar, i was called a several times by an 0870 number which i refused to answer, which turned out to be a mate working a company callcentre
