Title: have i ever mentioned?
Post by: TheBoy on 24 April 2008, 17:48:08
I detest london with a passion. and the fat useless mayor's transport system is absolutely useless. I wish i'd brought the car in, would have been far quicker.

and my boogies will be black tonight as well :(

Despite living in Lincs, my gaffer loves sending me to London. Disregarding Livingstones ill thought congestion charge it's no harder to navigate than any other city, just a bit more of it. If you start with the North/ South circular (A406) the rest falls into place...easy.
Hanger Lane gyratory can take a while in an artic as can the Woolwich ferry if it's only running one way. The East India Dock road is a nightmare for impossible to find addresses, but Putney bridge (nr. Fulham Hi Gary!!) is pleasant to drive over en route to Wimbledon.
Maybe i have an unfair advantage??? :D

I avoid it like the plague -- and NEVER drive there!  For the few places I visit ( Buck House / Westminster / Mallish areas all tourist spots !) I use "shank's pony" -- far quicker !

Any of you with a misspent youth will understand my nostalgia. I misspent mine in London & Sussex so know some of it pretty well but i appreciate those who have to work in the congestion zone. Is Westminster worth it? :)

In my last job I used to have to drive to London and back 4 - 5 days a week (sometimes twice in one day when called out again in the middle of the night), I didn't have a choice but to drive as the boot of the car carried all the tools and spare parts I needed for all the various sites.

I guess it's stuck with me now because I will never use public transport whatever the penalty imposed for driving a car in the capital. Even now (10 years later) I still know London better than Birmingham!

You just wouldn't understand the pressure of the metropolis that is Truro. They've even got one of those new fangled multi-story car parks. It's a bit tight for all the Masseys and John Deeres on market day though.  :)

I had to walk from Malyebone to Angel to get a tube to Old Street, because fatty idiot can't sort out a useful public transport system.  The buses weren't taking more passengers as already overcrowded, and the queue for taxis was incredible.

Bloody horrid place, run by a useless fat idiot.  I hope Boris wins - equally incompitent, but funnier.

So true.

LOL - I remember being on the same train as the greek bloke from London's Burning. He was wearing a long wool coat, and it was so packed that the lad behind him was pressed up so hard behind him, he drooled down that coat.

On the upside, I do get a cracking 3G signal in the big smoke!

Don't care what you all say,i love the place despite being unable to afford a property there. Ideally i'd like properties around the uk to flit between including a sprawling apartment in the smoke.
Sadly the costs are a little prohibitive to say the least but if i could i'd have the London apartment & a Barn Conversion in Cumbria with a pool for when i wanted to "get away from it all"!!! :)

I stand corrected if I am wrong but, killing time in a hospital waiting room today, I found an article in a magazine that stated that 24 hrs breathing in London is the equivilent to smoking 14.4 ciggies. There were other examples but I forget the details.
Last in London in 2001 with work, couldn't walk the streets for the beggers, some quite intimidating and the rubbish, never seen anything like it. :(We should all be proud of our capital city. :-[ :-[
