Title: A brief reminder......
Post by: hotel21 on 12 October 2012, 18:37:08
...... of one section of the forum guidelines.

Excessive use of bad language of any description will not be tolerated, neither will the use of certain words (masked or otherwise) which we hope should be plain and obvious to anyone who can read these guidelines and be intelligent enough to work out what kind of behavior is and isn't allowed.

There has been a need of late to moderate some posts where certain profanities (albeit asterisk amended or similar).  Some posters do this more than others.

Please desist. I am no prude by any stretch of the imgination but I do not like to see some of these words appear here.

Ta.  :y

We can all use certain words.

One word I know from experience on here that does cause grief, however, is the 'C' word.

And thats not cock, crap, clap, clock, clip - you get the gist.....

Perpetration of terminillogical inexactitude - in other words, your talking shite. :D ;D ;D

No doubt STMO will be along soon to point out my spelling mistakes in that lot. ::)

But doesn't that give the wrong impression to new members? We have Admins & other members (myself included) using certain words, but then they or older members get pulled up for it.
Personally the C word doesn't bother me, nor does any other word for that matter. I bet there's someone out there that doesn't like the word shite or any other profanity that appears, but doesn't say anything.

As far as I'm concerned we should have a blanket ban on swear words. After all what';s right & what's wrong :-\ :-\

I'm not picking on anyone, just making a point :) ;)

Pete. Some words are acceptable, within reason, to some whilst other words are unacceptable to most others.

My point is that the 'c u next Tuesday' one falls into the latter.

Personally I use it verbally as an extreme explecative in some very limited situations but I would not use it as a written/typed word (other than on here to explain a point) as I know that it is a word unacceptable to most women and as such, do not see it as necessary on here.
Title: Re: A brief reminder......
Post by: TheBoy on 12 October 2012, 21:24:30
I think most people would find Next Tuesday offensive, its not a word you would use in front of a stranger.  Bloody, bleeding, damn, shit and crap, well, you might in certain environments.

I'm certainly no prude, but I find certain words unacceptable to be used in public.

I understand what you're saying H. I'm also an Admin on an HSV site. We have opted for a blanket ban on swear words, we find that works better. I've sat for ages thinking of profanaties & changing them to other words with the word filter. At the end of the day blokes will be blokes :y
I'm also a member on an Australian HSV forum & they have a section called "Bar Talk" where any thing goes. The rest of the forum is slightly more strict (slightly), but the Australians aren't as prude as us ;D

i dont know why any swear words are allowed.
if iam belting something and it slips and hits me i might swear, but that is spur of the moment it slips out and i cant take it back, but if iam posting something i can read through it and take it back.

Well reading back at some of the posts i've made in the last day or so that have been modified, I take it that this topic is aimed squarely at me so if my choice of language on here at times has genuinely offended someone (scrabble players checking my spelling not included), I apologise.  No offence was intended.
When I type something on here, it comes straight from the heart and if it is something I feel strongly about, it shows in my language.

Personally I think some folks need to lighten up a little on here but at the end of the day, its upto admin / mods how the forum is run.

Hugs and kisses

Not just you TG but you are up there with the others.

Guidelines are for all to abide by, admin included, but I personally feel that standards have slipped somewhat of late and I am reminding all of the line in the sand, so to speak.

Thanks for your understanding.

As a long standing member who does not post very much, if at all, i do find the language on this forum has slipped, I am not a prude at all, i seem to suffer like all us males to use the wrong choice of words on occasions but i do think there should be some standards on the forum, especially the OOF forum, as it is one of, if not the best forum on the internet.

Just my thoughts,, all derogatory comments welcome.. :D  Except comments from STMO.. ;)

Keep up the good work everyone.

Totally in agreement with not using THAT word, as it has to be the basest insult ever. I can't remember ever using it myself but have to admit i'm one of the most prolific users of 'lesser' variants of lower case vocabulary :-[
Point taken and will in future think hard before putting finger to keyboard! :y
Mind you, I have to admit to being a big fan of a certain 4 letter word beginning & ending with T especially when expressed by a Welshman! :D  I find it just the ticket for venting built up frustration! ;D

With reference to the T word. My point is that the Welsh 'twang' has given this particular utterance a most unique and satisfying sound. Click the link for confirmation  :y

i say this swearing thingy could be something to do with location. In kent one does not feel the need to swear and curse, one simply holds ones tounge. Its a simple matter of self control.

Obviously swearing was intruduced but the scotts and passed downwards so one cant simply blame the northerners say for example those from Hull

where such adverts as you buy one f-ing window you get one f-ing free
