Hi all, this has probably been asked or discussed before but i couldn't find a full answer in the search results.
will a 2.8 v6 turbo go in an omega, is there bell housing issues and rwd mounting issues. was there a rwd american or European variant of the engine or how did they manage 4x4 in the insignia for the rwd part at least?
Thanks
Mark

Its the same bellhousing pattern.
Would probably need a bespoke EFi system due to the lack of can support.

Insignia and Saab 9-3 X both use a similar transferbox arrangement as the Chavalier/Calibra set up :y
Also putting the engine in the rightway round also causes issues with the exhaust/turbo plumbing as that is traditionally sited over the fwd gearbox. Also need some thought as to getting the intercooler plumbing to the front of the rad. Probably easier to drop a v8 in...

True. A v8 will go in straight and I didn't think about the turbo until you said that and I looked at the picture of the insignia
and it is keeping the gearbox warm isnt it

There are issues, its not as straight forward was you would hope. Many have looked seriously at it, the problem (with LS1 at least) is the exhaust manifold and the lack of space

Dropping a V8 in, although challenging in places, is probably simpler and better value ie more/easier power forthe cost, than trying to replumb and rewire the 2.8 :y
Although the plod Vectras are cheap enough, and about a fifth of the price of a very ropey Monaro donor :-\
If I were to stick a different V6 in it would be either the 3.6 (280bhp) GM lump, or the 3.0 diseasel into a desmond :y

The
3.6 V6 GM lump as used in the Holdens & Chevys is more or less the same as the 2.8 being an all alloy motors with chain drive.
Looking at this the other night and it seems GM have had alot of problems with the 3.6 in respect of the timing chains stretching and breaking but the 2.8 seems ok.

I wonder then what sort of power/torque the 2.8 would produce if fitted as a N/A unit using the 3.2 ancilliaries :-\
A reliable chain driven cam might be worth the effort in the long run, not that the cambelt is that tricky...

depending which version of the 3.6 you go for then they can make upto 306ish bhp as standard which is the replacement engine for the "alloytec" engines, IIRC its called the high feature engine or something, might have got the names the wrong way round but the alloytec is the same lump as the 3.2 alfa engine
..just search wikipedia for the la3 and it has the engine which superceeded it

think that the "high-feature" engine is a different bellhousing

Buy a Commodore!!? :)

Does this mean you can get one with Alfa exhaust manifolds? Not that I'm impressed by overly shiny things...
