Apparently they turned over £398 million pounds last year, yet didn't make a single penny in profit. Poor lambs, I really feel for them. :'( :'(
They must employ some shit hot accountants. >:(

At 3 quid a cup I'm not surprised. ::)
.. and then there's the rather cup sizes. What is so difficult about providing a medium coffee? Oh, you mean a Tall, or perhaps Grande? No. I mean that I can see 3 cups on the counter. The smallest one is a waste of time, the largest one looks like a bucket, I want the one in between. In English we have the perfect word to describe it FFS! Can't we just use it? >:(

Didn't I see they opened 270 odd branches as well though...?
Do you see a change in reporting on tax "evasion" btw...? All of a sudden we're all bad boys and girls for keeping tax bills to a minimum. Wtf...?
You either give it to the govt or It goes into the economy... Where's the harm...?
( by that I mean, Starbucks could have paid tax on thier profits, but they didnt. They opened a load of branches and emplyed a load of people, and showed no profit! Or at least less profit. Turn over is very different to profit. VERY different!)
It's exactly what I'd have done in their position. (if only ::) )

If I'd turned over £300m, my desk would look like Al Pacino's in Scarface... ;D

...if you'd made a profit, defo. But in April you have to give half your desk to the tax man, or spend it on the business. ;)

we used to do a ;ot of work for sh1tbucks and at the height of thier expansion they were giving us 17 new stores a week and that went on for 18 months, and you would not open like that if you were not making a profit :y

It exactly what you would do. See profit rising throughout the year and spend it before year end. As per previous post.

well no as you could'nt keep on doing it...it is like pyramid savings in the end there would be no more money.

I'd be paying exorbitantly large "royalties" to my head office in the Cayman Isles, Guernsey, Monaco, or wherever for the rights to use my own name on the front of my own shops, personally. Oh, that's actually what megastarbucks are doing too. ::)
-
what they are doing, just like any other global company is charging the local companies " group charges" to the UK so what this means is that they never make any profit in the local countries but all of the profit is make back home in head quarters. All multi nationals play the game the same way. which is why some of them headquarter in low tax countries.
I would say it is reassuring that UK headquartered companies do the same but I'm struggling to think of any...

I'm sure its all within the rules. :)

This is how the global economy seems to work.Difficult to stop I would think as the global companies wont be inclined to do much business in countries which are seen as having unfriendly tax regimes. :-\ Cant really blame people or companies for trying to retain their money, rather than give it to politicians, who will almost certainly waste every penny of it.The answer I suppose,as someone already suggested is to have British companies doing the same in other countries. I would imagine some do,but whether its being done on the same scale as foriegn companies are doing it here - who knows ?
