Post by: Markie on 21 April 2008, 19:04:04
Enlighten me IT folkies....And we are talking spam as in unwanted email NOT processed "meat"

I get about 300 emails a day generally offering viagra and associated drugs etc etc....many emails are just scrolls of characters that dont make sense and have no links...

So why...whats the point ? Who gains given that i have no additional brand awareness and that I havent been do a dodgy link ?

I dont understand  :-/ and its not that hard to simply delete them....is SPAM  just to annoy or what?

companies that say they dont give out your details to 3rd party companies, often actually do, and this even includes well-known companies who you expect to keep their word, because they make money off it!

the 3rd party companies then pass your details on far and wide

It is a financially viable business, it costs very little to send SPAM and there is obviously enough return on that investment to make it worthwhile otherwise people wouldn't be wasting time and expense on sending it.

The more worthwhile it is the more people do it. Judging by the fact that you get about 300 a day, I'd say that it is obviously worth it in the big scheme of things. There are a lot of dumb people out there.

Personally speaking I don't get any, but then I use Yahoo and Hotmail, both of which have SPAM filters built in and they work extremely well.

I would suggest you turn on the spam filter.....most of them will be detected and moved/deleted from your inbox.....

Dont ever reply to them......insisting your taken of their email lists....coz your get even more.......once they know an email addy is live and being monitored.

Most email addy's are harvested from newsgroups.......theres lots of tools on the net to get such info.......

My advice would be to give a false email addy if poss or an anon one.....such as hotmail.

I use outlook for my mail tool........i get about 10 a day junk emails....the spam filter usually gets rid of them all......but ones that do get through ......i dont just delete them......i add them to the spam filter.....so anymore from that domain will get deleted  :y

There is a shitload of money in UCE.  Even if you only get paid a quid to send out 20m emails, you can do this quickly, and make a fortunate.

Now, out of those 20m emails, you can bet your arse a few hundred people will respond.
