Title: Ethernet Card

I fitted a PCI Ethernet card the other day in readiness for a router (I’m changing ISP).
Thing is; I didn’t get the “found new hardware wizard” & the light doesn’t flash. I tried the driver set-up that came with it but kept getting an error message, something like; there is no LAN set-up.
I went to Microsoft update, which said new software is available for the card, so I installed it.
There is a new LAN icon in the taskbar, which says a cable is unplugged.
I’m wondering if it will work when I plug the router in? Because if it doesn’t; I won’t be able to get on the net to find out why, any thoughts?

Yes, Plug it in and all should be well, 1 end of a cable is the same as no cable to a lan card.
Once there is a 'network' at the end of the cable, Windows should be happy.

if you have the icon, then the driver is fine (XP has drivers for most of the older common nic chips), so would have autoinstalled.

Plug it in, and away you go :)

You could have a quick look in device manager just to make sure there isnt a red cross or yellow question mark on the network card

The light will only flash with network activity, which you dont have at the moment with no cable plugged in.

Set up router earlier & all's well. In fact better than than, got double my old connection speed & at almost a third of the cost  :) ;)
