What an idiot. This is a good example of people who know nothing of real life scrabbling around for a sound bite and justifying a priviledged life of endless meetings and expenses.
The people coming up to pensionable age will, for the most part, have been in full employment and actually paid into their state pension in full.
If this Lord Bichard wanted to focus his attention somewhere he could do it on those in society drawing benefits through either a lack of work opportunities OR lack of work inclination. Those folk could do "community work" as they already do to good effect in countries like Spain.
The man is an idiot.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20044862. Would he take money off the retired if they didn't or couldn't do community work? Has he not realised that in the Western World we will be lucky to ever have full employment again?. Yes the man is a first class idiot.
I am all for Big Society. I had great hopes for that when Cameroon first mooted it. How good would it be for doctors waiting rooms to be happy places where you could meet and have a coffee and a home made piece of cake (all staffed by members of the community) rather than the grim places full of snufflers that I remember. (this example is what one South West practice has actually done!).

The 'Logans Run"' solution is not far away.

Typical faceless government administrator, who has spent all of his life polishing the seats of chairs with his butt. >:( >:( >:(
I suggests he gets out a bit more and meets some old people, like those who have done hard physical work all of their lives and have the worn bones, bad backs and arthritis as mementos. What about the heavy smokers suffering from emphysema and would struggle to cross a road, without a few gulps of oxygen, let alone sweep it.
Many people of the current generation of pensioners started work at 14 and 15 at a time of full employment, so they will have done their bit for paying into the system for 50 years and may have even had a half decent private pension, but for Gordon McRuin's pension tax grab and his progressive wrecking of the economy.
Meddling Lord Bichard should keep his snout and shiny butt out and let the pensioners who want to work to supplement their pensions carry on and those that just want to enjoy the twilight years of their lives, do just that. :y :y :y
If Lord Bichard wants to do something useful, start getting work shy youngsters into jobs, so low paid service jobs are not filled from everywhere but the UK.

State pension does not bother him.
He will have a comfy gov pension and probably investments, private pensions, and will retire to an exotic island. >:(
Typical total governing pratt :y

I'm actually one of the people that Lord Bichard is talking about as I will be sixty five next October, and in all honesty I will not hesitate in claiming my state pension as I have worked from the age of fifteen and always worked up until last year when I failed my PCV medical and the DVLA suspended my licence.I have never claimed any benefits through out my working life and even over the last year I have'nt been entitled to any state help including the job seekers allowance.
I even took the decision to undergo eye surgery which had an uncertain outcome in the hope of getting my licence back but unfortunately it has resulted in more surgery which is planned for the beginning of next month and which hopefully will put things right and then with luck I can get back to work.In the last year I have applied for numerous minimum wage jobs and the underlying reason for not even getting an interview was blatantly obvious, and that is I'm to old and even though age discrimination is illegal it still exists. So if I'm to old to work now,how in God's name will I suddenly at sixty five become conveniently employable? ......Every one take a deep breath because there's a very strong smell of bulls**t and you know where it's coming from! :o ::)

Its hardly surprising when you look at his name. His mother was obviously a bitch and his father a retard. ;) :D

Varche says 'idiot'. Think about it....Lords.....in session they wear silly coats, a daft hat and silk stockings! 'bout as daft and out of touch as our 'judges'! Probably sodden/pickled by a high intake of free Port too. I reckon its because his comments (advice) were made because he has more than ample in his bank to see himself through very nicely. More so when its alonside the perks he will doubtless also enjoy that are paid for by us. Logans Run? Bet not many remember that one.....Yep....lets have it for those wallys who give out advice like that and do it on Nov 5 so everyone can enjoy the display as they burn ;D ;D ;D
Anyway, what did happen to the massives funds that were robbed a few years ago (thank you brown) from the pension funds we had paid into? Time we had a answer to that one! >:(

Rather than get pensioners out working (most of which have worked their entire life) they should stick the jobless bums who refuse to work and are perfectly able to, out in the community doing stuff, litter picking, charity work whatever.
It p*sses me off seeing some of the scum around here doing SFA whilst I have to work my ass off to keep a roof above my families head, whilst they sit around off their heads on whatever the spend their JSA on.

According to the Express headline this morning,he retired at 54 on £120,000 a year. ::)

I rest my case ;D ;D ;D ;D Prime example of the priviledged telling the drones what they ought to do whilst doing the opposite.
