Title: Performance of a turbo diesel?
Post by: darren5354 on 25 April 2008, 21:28:23
Hi All, I have owned two elites in the past & I'm on the lookout for a new one. I am concidering a turbo diesel but I have never driven one & would like to know what thier performance is like? I go on track days & would be interested in which model omega you think is the fastest etc? Thank you all in advance

only ever driven 2.5,i would assume the 3.2 would be the one with the most grunt and probably the least mpg.i drive an auto but i dont have any strong feelings regarding auto/manual.the missus much prefers  auto,so despite the fact that she rarely drives and she couldnt drive a pig with a stick,i buy auto cars for a quite life . ;)

I know what you mean albits, her in doors and all that. I've only driven autos but never been disappointed with the performance! however I imagine that you would have much more control with a manual?

the diesels in standard form are about as quick as my 2.2 petrol so not very fast!

if your after track days, MV6 all the way.

ex-police 3.2 manual is your best bet, possible it won't have aircon thats good, less weight.

Basic spec with holes, so no probs ripping it out for a roll cage.

Already a manual, just needs better shocks and springs, job done  :y

The 2.5TD are pretty slow in my book, de tuned straight 6 BMW lump for gearbox reasons. I basicly use my 2.5TD Estate as a Van for Work.

My MV6 3.0 is a manual, not the fastest thing on the Planet but for me drives well with the Manual Box.

Have a go of a manual though cause i wanted one instead of auto until i tried a couple and has to be the worst gearbox by a million miles quite shocking to be honest with a throw between gears longer than a chris backley javalin and feels like its sat in a custard tart! Sorry to anyone who has a manual, just my opinion.

Yes the MV6 3.2 will be the quickest one, but if you get a Diesel and find out a BMW 2.5 td Gearbox, then retune the motor to BMW spec, add chip  ;) and watch it hammer the 3.2 out of the coners every time  ;D ;D

Just out of curiosity why would you want to track an omega its not exactly what you call sporty and on track power to weight is everything and you will see your backside when mk1 golfs and ford fiestas leave you for dead, you would have more fun in a old golf or something similar aswell.

People find that the Omega can corner very quickly on a track - also Golfs and Festers are wrong wheel drive

I know there wrong wheel drive but wouldnt bet against an old mk1 golf round track against an omega.

An ex member used to have a track MV6 and he was getting silly lap times, I wouldn't bet against it anyway
