Updated: partial facade collapse - no injuries.  :y

Still scary stuff, though :o  :(

I wouldn't wish it on anyone anywhere, but I can't help feeling there a more than a few folk down New Orleans way, still living in makeshift accomodation amongst the ruins that are probably thinking 'Yeah, and...?'

Currently Sandy has sadly claimed 33 souls. Katrina claimed 1,464 victims officially recognized by the state of Louisiana, and a further 500+ not publicly released.

As I said, I really wouldn't wish it on anyone, but you'd swear the storm was hitting the UK, going by the extensive BBC news coverage. No doubt the massive and swift clear up operation will also speak volumes.

Interesting how there was little coverage while Sandy was causing mayhem and carnage in the Caribbean, yet once it heads for New York.....  :-\

Its one of the worlds largest cities and financial centres, and therefore will have an effect everywhere.Quite a few traders in London sent home from work today as Wall st was shut. This will have happened to some extent in financial centres all over the world.
The cost of that will run into billions I would imagine.

Yeah, true enough. I guess them Mississippi folk don't have much bearing on the global economy.  ::)

Sandy is the lowest grade of hurricane, thus another slow news week, people must be bored with Jimmy.

'Slow news' is just what I was thinking last night after watching 10 minutes of reasonably choppy sea and listening to some news presenter trying to dramatise the situation.

What is it with the ridiculous excitement of some folk in this country, glued to the TV or radio for every bit of news update that comes through. I have a few in work. No friends or relatives out there, not a clue about any global financial implications or what have you. I wouldn't be surprised to hear they'd stocked up on emergency food themselves.  :-\

Oddly enough, it is that time of year  ::) hurricanes are as much a part of daily life in the Caribbean as frozen leaves are here in November :-\ Therefore not News, but news.

Then having said that, those pesky Americans do like to dramatise these things ::) Some of our newscasters could do with a trip on this...

It is a timely reminder that however big and clever we think we are, at the end of the day we are mere passengers :y
May as well sit back and watch...

If Sandy eventually makes it over here it'll be interesting to see how much oomph it has left :-\ probably be a bit breezy for a couple of days and not much else ::)

:y   And some this side of the pond just lap it all up.   Sandy claimed over sixty lives in the Caribbean, yet it's the thirty odd this last day or so that make the headlines. >:(

Had it gone up into the Gulf rather than the east coast, a 14' storm surge would have probably finished New Orleans for once and all :-\

Sadly getting New York back to work will be seen as critical given the economic climate and did someone mention an election or summat :-\ might just make or break Obama...

Makes you wonder what's really going on that needs our attention, that we should know about, but what the machine is trying to keep from us.

Announcement: Servers intermittent due to Hurricane Sandy.

Hello all,

Many people have been running into server problems and disconnects as they attempt to play Modern Warfare 2, World at War and Black Ops. This is due to Hurricane Sandy currently causing power outages on the North Eastern Coast.
