Title: Possible Ebay issue
Post by: 05omegav6 on 01 November 2012, 20:04:08
Recieved a second chance offer on an item yesterday. Paid by Paypal, including €35 for postage.

Noticed today that the postage charge on the order summary is now €70 >:( so straight into my Paypal account, and the transaction is showing as completed at the original purchase price, including postage at €35.

What the opps is going on? Can the seller actually double the postage after an item is paid for :-\

Item has yet to be dispatched, if that makes any difference  :-\

The postage is expensive at €35, so €70 is just taking a jimmy >:(

Have you contacted the seller regarding this issue ?

Not yet. Not sure quite how to approach it tbh :-\

Presumably you have an invoice showing the amount you paid, and itemising the postage?

If so, I'd just wait for it to turn up, and if there are any issues, dispute it. You paid what was asked at the time of entering the transaction.

Presumably you have an invoice showing the amount you paid, and itemising the postage? Yes :y BUT

order summary now shows the 'revised' postage. The offer notification AND my Paypal transaction summary both show the postage at the original amount.

If so, I'd just wait for it to turn up, and if there are any issues, dispute it. You paid what was asked at the time of entering the transaction.  :y My initial thought was to kick and scream, but given they have yet to post the item, I figured that would probably achieve less than nothing.

I shall keep a very close eye on my Paypal account and see what transpires  :-\

Contact the seller and ask them clarify what is what. eBay keep a record of all M2M, so get in touch with the seller and get the ball rolling on sorting it out. :y

'Contact Seller' option will carry far more weight with an eBay dispute than 'Contact OOF'.  ;)

I'd wait and see ;)

The seller cannot "take" extra from your Paypal account, you have to "give" it.

True :y

If you've not paid anymore than you expected then that's fine, but I'd still get a 'friendly' query on record, just in case the seller tries pulling a fast one with 'insufficient postage paid'.

Sent this...

'Could you please explain why the postage on the order summary has changed to €70 and not €35 that I paid at checkout.'

Wait and see... :-\

I'm one of seven in the e-commerce & marketing dept at work. We have approximately 180,000 listings on eBay. eBay look most favourably on polite interaction via their internal message service.
As TB says, with PayPal the buyer 'sends' the money. The seller cannot take more out of your account, but they can raise an 'insufficient postage' claim and refuse to send the item until it is paid. A polite query, as you have just made, 'gets in there' first.  ;)
