I'm new to using forums etc and I'm also a new Omega owner, having only acquired my first one this week. I want to start by saying Im overwhelmed by just how effective this forum is proving to be, even at this early stage. High five and thanks to RobG the omega king for the help he's given me today.
The vehicle: Vauxhall Omega 2.6 V6 auto Elite '51' plate 74000miles
The problem: Car had been unused, parked in a garage for 14 months prior to my collecting it last week. It started first turn, straight to garage, where it flew through the MOT. Drove it home 150 miles, sweet, BUT then it started refusing to start, half an hour later it started, when I'm driving it cuts out, and refuses to start, until I've left it for a while {Length of time varies}. Theres no warning lights or noises, or anything untoward. The previous owner {A relative} had NO problems with it prior to parking it in the garage 14 months ago. The consensus so far is its crank sensor! I've yet to do the pedal trick which I've been advised to do, but when I have I'll post the results.
The help I need: We are a low income family, and the wife is not a happy bunny that I've got the car {although she loves it} I want to know if I buy the part, is there any local members that can help with the fitting. I've been quoted £235 inc for a major service, but I've been advised, NOT to use main dealers, as there is plenty of talented local members who could help me with this.{ I'll make it worth there while..obviously }
If anyone locally with the knowledge and enough time can help me to avoid massive garage bills, hopefully I'll be able to keep
this 'already much loved car'
Keep up the good work on this superb site, its already proving to be a god send. I LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM

Forgot to mention in my PM`s Steve that pedal trick may not reveal an 0335 but the problem you describe is definitely symptomatic of failing crank sensor. Fairly sure someone local will be able to assist :y :y

I have a known good (but used) sensor I could send to Steve to ascertain if thats definitely the problem (sounds like it is to me) but its from a year 2000 car so might not be the same fitting as his ? :-\
Whatever route you take Steve,dont use a pattern part.It would be false economy. ;)

Good luck with the fuel bills. :y
I may be able to help with a second hand crank sensor from the 2002 2.6 manual that I'm breaking...
