Title: Exhaust smoke...
Post by: Webby the Bear on 04 November 2012, 10:33:09
hi again guys. sorry for extra thread but completely forgot to mention.......

mam went out in car yesterday.... it was quite cold if i remember... i was watching her star car and drive off. i noticed that when it started the first exhaust smoke to come out had a blue-ish tinge. then went white but seemed like it was producing quite a bit of smoke. there was a definite smell of petrol as well. when she got back after running it fir a while it was producing normal amount.

was this just cos it was cold or potential problem?

The colder and damper the weather the more you will see white smoke in the mornings, its only steam anyway, blue smoke on start up is either a bit of valve guide wear or bore wear although bore wear will tend to smoke all the time.

Henryd thats exactly what my teacher said (i queried it today in college). He said the fact I've only seen it once and its not constant would be valve guide wear. He said that even though it shouldn't happen its nothing to worry about :-)
