my steering is sometimes heavy ive checked tyres and power steering fluid now before we all say pump and steering could it be a speed sensor fault as i believe the steering had speed sensitive sensor as sometimes its as light as a feather and others its heavy but it only does it after its been turned off and come back and re start then its changed it never changes during driving
all help would be a help before i start spending coin on steering parts
cheers peeps

If assistance increases when revs are up it`s a lazy pump
-
it stays same all through driving its more noticable at slower speeds as its heavy at higher speed ie motorway ya cant tell because ya goin straight or making slight alterations im wondering if i unplug the wires from the steering box would this resolve the problem
-
If you unplug the wires from the steering box it'll always be heavy.
Need to try and figure out if it's RPM related. Try it at a standstill, Swing steering lock to lock with engine idling, then repeat at 2000 RPM.

cheers matey i will try that tomorra on way to work it just seems funny that it only changes when its been switched off so maybe it is a relay which isnt always doing its job when turning ign on . thanks for the info guys it gives me some things to work on as part of my diagnostic path lol

there,s also a fuse thats been known to blow. if memory serves me right it,s the same fuse which powers the cig lighter. it once happened to me. :y
-
Yep, well worth checking the fuses.
Does the speedometer work OK? Do you ever get ABS or traction control warning lights on?

I had this problem on my last omega, steering stiff at very low speed. I'm pretty sure it was because I cut the wrong wires for the power sounder and cut the speed sensitive steering by mistake. This was many years back long before I knew of OOF. I just lived with it, not a problem when you get used to it.
