Title: Wiring help
Post by: bigtow on 06 November 2012, 18:12:16
Hi can anyone tell me where I can find the feed for the interior lights on a 2000 face lift and what colour wires I am looking for as my interior light has packed up working and it's not the bulbs or the lamp it's self as I have tried swapping my unit for a known good one

What type of interior light is it. A pic would be good.

Don't have a pic to hand the original one has got the alarm sensors in it and has a sticker with FE on it the second hand one has no sensors and has FG on the sticker if it helps the FG one the map reading lights work but the main light doesn't either by pulling out the headlight switch or when you open he door and the one with the sensors does nothing at all that's what makes me think it's a broken wire on the way up to the roof but haven't got a clue what colours the wires should be I have found a permeant live at the plug In the head lining but no switched feeds. Is there a multi plug in one of the kick panels that goes up to the roof ?

You have to swap like for like :y For reasons that are beyond me, they aren't interchangeable :'(

I understand what you are saying about like for like when swapping the lights but both have the same fault no lights when opening the door or pulling out the light switch does anyone know what colour wire feeds the interior light so I can trace the wire for brakes it's a feed problem not a problem with the lights

If we know what type of light it is, we can check ;)

Opening a door earths the light, the red will be live all the time, the black live with the ignition.

GreyBlack, direct from Alarm ECU (or Central Locking ECU for GLS and Plod)
