Thats some project  :y  One of my mates (in the 60s) used to transport his racing Holbay Anglia in a converted 50s coach - I used to trailer my "S" - couldn't afford that level of luxury!

I rode the GGs on the last fire strikes in NI! They were painted yellow over there though so people forgot we were the army and didn't brick us, it didn't work!  :D. I remember them being quite sluggish although there was one that was fast as anything, even pulling away from a snatch! Uphill as well!

Not all of them are 4wd, most are but there was a few rwd ones.

I've got a '62 Bedford fire engine on a TJ chassis, so smaller than a GG RL but with the same lump 4.8 straight 6 rings a bell, crash box (you need arms like stretch armstrong to drive it the gearstick is so far behind you!). It weighs 4.25 tons, so that combined with a shorter wb than GG makes it pretty rapid round the doors if you drive it right, even by modern standards. The engine sounds lovely and reminds me of my old Senator 12v.

Oh yeah it had a dodgy carb so we poured petrol in to get it started, any way it blew the back box open, which happens to be under the front bumper. That was funny, and loud! :D It's got a new carb and back box now!

lol memories!! used to drive them in the army!!

the MPG on average was a whole 4!!!!! mind you that didnt take into account how much went missing into squaddies private cars!!,
on exercise there one time signed for a nice shiny blue one from the raf on loan,in cyprus,
drove it down Trudos mountain on one memorable occasion, after picking up a team from the top,in those days it was a single track road down the moutain most of the way,
at the bottom was a T junction on opposite side of road was a natural stone wall, guess who had no brakes left time he got down the mountain? lol the Raf were not to pleased when they go thier
previously immaculate bedford was returned a foot shorter and jammed in 4 wd, as the rear prop was smashed on the remains of the wall, ::)

Ive been to a place called Witham Specialist Vehicles near Grantham just off A1. They dispose of ex forces vehicles. You name it they've got it. When the GGs were going they had loads in there. All overpriced though. Obviously now there's been a correction.

That GG thread is a great read and what a project!!  :y  I didn't look at his Healy thread but I got the gist from his last couple of posts that he's shipping the Healy Sprite to the Caribbean for an event (or events)...  ::)  Now THAT sounds like fun!!  :y :y :y

What are your plans for a Green Goddess Red Baron?  :)
