Title: 100w full beam bulbs
Post by: bigtow on 06 November 2012, 21:25:34
I want to upgrade the full beam bulbs and was looking at some 100w ring bulbs it says not for road use so I have two questions one will the omega wiring take the load of a pair of 100w bulbs and two can you get done for fitting them . In my younger days I used to have 80/100w bulbs in my escort but I wasn't worried about getting nicked back then ?

I had the same bulbs fitted to my Manta  ;)
Not sure if the wiring would support the extra current required by the 100w bulbs, & I'd be wary of the extra heat behind a plastic lens  :-\ :-\

Judging by some aftermarket "improved" lights I see, the Police. IF they're doing their job. ::)

You are playing into their hands if they decide they are going to pull you over and find something. Given that the standard main beams are excellent I can't see the point of risking a pull or overloaded wiring, TBH.

Given that you'll only have your main beam on when there's no other traffic ........  ;) Police aren't going to see them.  ;) ;) ;)

as aftermarket xenons become illegal for mot last year - I discovered why, because number plate reading cameras cant read through them at night ;D  and they cant calculate my avg speed at nights ;D ;D ;D -  every 2 years for mot I convert them to normal and then xenons back again.. :-\

You could try fitting 50% brighter lamps from a reputable maker. Used these years ago in my old Senny and then the Carlton. Fantastic differance. Another way of running the 100watt is to wire through a seperate relay for the power. Did this on a Mk1 Cav with Manta quad headlamp conversion on it.
