Can anyone confirm for certain that the 3.0 heads have the threads to be able to bolt the coil packs down if it's fitted to a 2.6? ... Someone who has done this conversion on a vectra said that on the omega 3.0 engine he got they were there so wanted to ask on here for clarification.
Thank you in advance. :)

Can't see it tbh
-
on late 3.0 you can bolt on coil pack from 2.6/3.2 no problem
EDIT: are you going to swap engine or just heads??
-
Full engine will be going into a 2.6 mate
-
Any more input? :y
-
In addition to making sure a donor 3.0 has the bosses to secure the coil pack, I would think the cam covers from the 2.6 would need to be retained, as they would have square cutouts for the coil packs, not the round ones for the ignition leads.
If you use the rest of the ancillaries from the 2.6 I can't think of much else to do. Keep the 2.6 exhaust manifolds and gaskets as they're better.

Think the later 3.0 heads have the threads for the coilpacks because the later Catera is also DBW, but only ever sold as 3.0 :-\
-
Yes I will obviously need to swap the cam covers and a few other bits (manifolds as you say), Worst case scenario I suppose is the threads wont be there and I will have to drill / tap them out... Not too much of a big job.

This is from my x30xe. (dunno what age these are, but have som early 97 heads witch are exactly the same.)

No coilpack mounting holes there :'(
Suspect that any post '99 3.0 heads would do :-\
Unless the threads for the coilpack bolts are part of the cover :-\ if this is the case, then perhaps just buy new late cam covers...

have set of 3.0 heads here and they have holes for coil pack
-
Im going to check the ones on the breaker tomorrow.Im curious now. :)
-
I think the one on the picture is 94 and the others i got that are early 97 witch are the same.
I have got a late 97 engine in my car atm (thats when the long inlet came along and the new oilfilter) maybe that has got the holes?

Just checked the heads on my year 2000 3.0 breaker and it has the holes for the coil packs. So,does that mean the heads would be ok to fit to a 2.6 and/or a 3.2 ? :-\
-
In theory yes, but equally, the whole engine could be fitted in a later car without any extra wiring being done to the car :y
I think... :-\ be a tidy upgrade for a 2.6 8)

That depends if the valves and combustion chambers are the same size. I can't remember if they are. You might end up changing the compression ratio otherwise.

Could it change it enough to cause a problem :-\
Obviously too high and things break, too low and the car becomes gutless porridge :-\
