Title: Windscreen glass cracked :-(
Post by: Arrolman on 27 April 2008, 21:03:25
Hi,

My Windscreen has a crack running the full length about 5 inches from the drivers side of the car, replacment is the only option :'(. Anyone got an idea of how much it will cost? Anyone recommend who to get to fit one?

Cheers,
Iain

yep, insurance is the best route, you might have to pay a £50 excess (dependant on policy) but usually it doesnt affect your no claims

otherwise you're looking at £hundreds

If you are really keen, you can cut one out of a scrapyard car, and get it glued in by a helpful fitter. They use a special tool, like a screwdriver with the last 1" bent 90deg and sharpened to cut thro the rubber. Also a string/toggle to help pull it thro. I managed it once, but its an absolute bitch of a job. However if your broke, needs must...........

If got window cover.........not all policies have this.......

Mine was £50 excess...last time i had my windscreen replaced.......tho some are £75 i believe......

And £50 for drivers window.......and another £50 for passenger window..... >:(

Shud add if you have window insurance........you dont need to call your insurance comp.......it says it on your policy......so you just need to show your policy to window replacement comp....and they will do the work.....charge you the excess and bill your insurance comp.....and as said doesnt effect no claims bonus  :y
