I have a problem with the EML on my 2002 Omega 2.2CD Auto 38,500mls after a new exhaust was fitted the EML came on we have changed the pre-cat 02 sensor which is what the scanner informed us was the problem, changed the EGR valve, had the exhaust manifold skimmed and new gasket with exhaust to manifold gasket.
The EML has come on on numerous occasions, I have had it switched off after each time work has been done on the car,but it keeps on returning.
Yesterday the light came on, the garage scanned it and it said the pre-cat 02 sensor but the garage does not believe this, they switched the light off and after leaving the garage the light came back on,at the time I was low on fuel but the low fuel light had not illuminated,I stopped the car and switched the ignition off,I then just switched the ignition on to see if the low fuel light was OK,it was so I switched the ignition off and then restarted the car to find that the EML had actually extinguished it`s self.
I phoned the garage to let them know what had occurred and they are as baffled as I am.
Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted, other than this problem the car is brill, and no it`s not going to the scrappy as I don`t give up easily.

The DBW`s are renowned for the 0420/0430 codes as it relates to the pre-cat/s (2 on the V`s) losing some of it`s efficiency over time hence the emission light throwing a wobbler. Normal procedure on the 2.6/3.2 is to relocate the lambda`s post pre-cat. With the 2.2 the occurrence of the code is significantly less so owners tend to just accept it and re-set the light with a cheapo code reader.

Hi RobG,
What are DBW`s,and is there a way of getting this light out,we have tried all kind`s of thing`s as you can see,I can extinguish the EML myself now because I bought a code reader but I would prefer to find the source and correct it.

DBW = Drive by wire .. no throttle cable ... all electronic :)
One thing you have not told us ... THE CODE of the fault !! If you can turn the EML off, you can read the EML code, and that is the answer we need .. :) everything else is pure guesswork !!

0420 not that common on 2.2
Is it genuine cat?

Hi The Boy,
No it`s not a genuine cat,do you think that`s the problem.

Try and source yourself a genuine cat from a breaker here, pattern one sound dreadful!
One pattern I saw recently was actually missing its pre-cat lambda
