Seems that something has been suggested, that I have previously dismissed.......... :-\ :-\ :-\

Claim directly from whichever place you may have borrowed from... loans, mortgages, credit cards, hp etc.
They send a form or two out, you fill them in and return. They the write to you and if they owe you owt then they'll tell you how much and send you a cheque :y
What ever you do, do not use third party agencies. They'll take at least 10% of whatever you're owed, whereas the financial institutions will pay you 100% plus interest :y

As Al says, deal direct with the institution. It is simple and stress free.

I am sure my daughter paid ppi on her first mortgage but she can't find paperwork. This was pre 2007 and was with Abbey now Santander - anyone been able to proceed without original documentation?
She remortgaged with Northern Rock which was paid off in 2006 - I think ppi was involved there as well

I have always maintained that I do not have any PPI, always refused, but seems that I may have it without knowing - given this got to be worth checking out, may simply ring the Halifax and ask... :D :D
Will check out 2 credit cards and one historical loan to be sure.... :) :)

If you have the account numbers it makes life easier, but as said, contact the companies directly and they should be able to provide account details and send out the paperwork. :y
As ever some firms are easier to deal with than others ::)

It's not simply that you HAD PPI ... it is whether you were MISSOLD PPI .. major and important difference .. :)

Agreed a notable distinction, but actually a very wide, grey and fuzzy one...
The insurance could me missold if actually inappropriate, effectively unuseable or compulsory :y

I have never knowingly bought this, said no on loans in the past, my job is secure, which also, sadly, means I can not retire early. as planned once ill, and I always felt if I was that Ill I didn't care......sadly had I took critical illness insurance on my mortgage i would be mortgage free........ ::) ::)
As said, I don't think I have any, but apparently I may have it without knowing...... :-\ :-\ I may just let one of these Ambulance chaser companies check me out, if I Have to pay them then it is from money I did not know I had... :D :D

Vamps, phone the lender direct, if you have paid say £100 per month more than you should have, for say 20years, then you might be entitled to £24000 plus interest...
That could mean clearing the mortgage and getting a holiday, rather than giving an opportunist blagger 5k and still having some of the mortgage left and no holiday :-\

The way ppi was sold back then, if you have ppi, then you almost cirtainly have a claim.
I had a loan with avco trust years ago. They insisted I had ppi as terms of the loan. Trouble is, it was back in 94-5.

I find the best way is to send a subject access request which means they have to send you all the paperwork they have including credit/loan agreements , insurance agreements , statements for at least 6 yrs, account notes etc which usually makes it easier for you to prove mis selling. It costs £10 to do this and there are template letters available on the web.
Just found out I have mortgage PPI when they sent me an agreement from 2000 I never knew I had entered into >:( the benefit wouldnt even cover half the mortgage payment for 6 months yet I have paid them over 2k >:(
Don't forget you can still claim back credit card charges too !! Go for the jugula :y

I got to admit I looked into this last year but walked away because I was told that it would end up going back to the reciever because it would be classed as a "undisclosed dept" :(
Since then, i've been advised by that if I contact the reciever myself before I do anything and strike a deal with them for a percentage of anything I manage to claim back off my own back, I should be able to keep most of it for myself.
Anybody on here shine any light on here before I start making phone calls.
One problem I can see is that the biggest dept I had (Lloyds TSB / overdraft, bankloan) is also the one who would end up paying out the most.

Don't know about the receiver side of things, but LLoyds are actually pretty easy to deal with :y
Pop into a branch, ask for the appropriate form, fill it in as best you can and hand it back. They then send it directly to the person who needs it, they in turn, write to you apologising for your complaint, and say they're looking into it. If they owe you anything they then write back with saying summat along the lines of "...we believe that we owe you XYZ for ABC accounts. Plus interest, we make that M. If this is acceptable, then do nothing and the money shall be repaid to you with in ten days..."
Process takes about 6-7 weeks :y
Barclays took a lot longer, about 15 weeks, but process very similar :y
To add, it doesn't affect your credit rating, because it can't 8)

I'm going into town later (the missus insists on taking me out for a few beers ;D)

AFAIK any interest due from them goes to you and not off any debts

If any IVA which you might have entered into spent? in which case, that is done and dusted, no?
A bit like still having speeding points on your licence 7 years after the event, (they expire at 3 years and are considered spent after 4, when they can be removed), the fact they are still on your paper licence simply means that you haven't changed any details, and have therefore not received a new one with no points :-\

I had a loan a few years back...they got me to have ppi, although I told them I was self employed. They said it did not matter. I have the paperwork and its shows about £1300 ppi payments.
Problem is...it was with Alliance and Leicester....and they are no more.... :(
Where do I stand ???
