Following on from a previous thread...
Not necessarily "favourite", but ones you would watch more than once that you thought stimulated some thought, or had something special/unique/enjoyable about it.
I'll start.
Die Hard quadrology - An Xmas event in the TB household, the DVD set always comes out after xmas. I tend to watch the first 2, and have the other 2 on whilst doing something else. Not a fan of the last 2, the last in particular is a bit dire. The first 2 are in my category of "Harmless Entertainment". Action packed, comedic.
The Terminator - I remember when I first saw it as a teenager, crapped me up. Still, IMHO, the best of the lot. Despite being 30yrs old, the CGI holds its own, so in its day, stunning.
LOTR Trilogy - Despite the subject matter not being my scene, its an massive, epic, stunning piece of work that successfully takes you on the journey with it. Fantastic cinematogrphy, excellent character introduction and development, rushed ending. Looking forward to what Jackson manages with the more simplistic The Hobbit.
Commando - One of my favourite Arnie films. Action? Check. Implausible? Check. Unbelievable? Check. Pointless bird in short skirt? Check. Cheesy? Check. Again, "Harmless Entertainment", and full of brilliant one-liners. Classic.
Italian Job - My favourite film. No further comment needed.
The Great Escape - A stellar cast, all giving career best performances, with a great story (and sadly based on real events). An Xmas essential.
Jaws - Another fairly old film that still manages to hold its own in the special effects department. Doesn't matter how many times you see it, it still manages to build tension. The follow ups are all pants though.

Matrix, 1st one was a great film up until the Red Pill/Blue Pill moment. The 2nd 2 in the series were pretty poor IMHO.
Original Predator, fantatsic. 2nd Predator, awful. The 2nd AVP didn't follow "Hollywood Rules", which was refreshing.
I'd like to add the original Jurassic Park I thought was very good, but let down by poor sequels ;D
-
Predator
-
Taken (Liam Neeson)
-
All the monty python films , mad max 1 , bullet , predator 1 , planet of the apes original , good bad ugly , death race .

-
snatch, bonded by blood, rise of the foot solider, starship troopers, :y
-
Grosse Point Blank.
The Fourth Element.
Ghostbusters mostly due to Bill Murray, but the effects still hold up.
The last 3 Batman films; action/blockbusters that actually have a story to tell, and didn't go with unwatchable shaky cameras.
Highlander - it's a terrible film, but is somehow still ridiculously enjoyable.
Jurassic Park set the scene, but just ended when the plot was just starting. Incredibly annoying!
-
Bullit, awesome atmosphere in that film with so little effort. :y
Good films;
Shawshank
Heat( fantastic gun fight scene)
Lock stock

-
Rarely watch films, seems to be a waste of a couple of hours and my attention span rarely lasts that long. There have been a few that I have watched more than once though.
Rainman - a stunning performance from Dustin Hoffman, which is good enough to make me forget that dickhead Cruise is in the film.
Snatch - hilarious
The Italian job - everything you could ever want in a film, even after all these years.
Whoever took the decision to do a remake should have been shot in front of their family. :)
-
Se7en
Apocalypse now
Schindlers list
The pianist
-
Most all of the above :y
Would add Pirates of the Caribbean, LA Story, Munich, Lost in Translation, The Big Lebowski and Clerks.
Also eagerly awaiting The Hobbit :y if it's much less than four hours long, I suspect I'll be disappointed :-\
-

A guy at the gliding club used to run one of those. He used to import gliders from Germany as a sideline. Apparently he had a bit of a rush to catch the ferry one time and discovered to his shock that it will tow a glider trailer on the autobahn at 120 MPH without batting an eyelid, and that the combination was still completely stable. :o
Fuel economy wasn't too great when doing that, of course. ;D
-
Kes :'(
-
Fuel economy in those wasn't too clever generally, unless the engine was off ;D
-
Kes :'(
Watched that again for the first time in about 35 years.
Not my normal type of film, much prefair something with mindless violence, fast car chases or totally sick and twisted humour but absolutely brilliant all the same and thought provoking :)
Not that im a total neanderthal ;D, its just that tend to sit down and watch a film after i've had a few beers and to be honest, I tend to fall asleep after a beer unless the film is very fast paced ::)

Ronin - A fantastic film with genre-changing driving scenes, but not sure its a film that I'd class as "special". But still brilliant. That doesn't make sense, does it? I know what I mean ;D
Shawshank - whoever said that, yes, a good film that is always a talking point after it
Schindlers List - I think gayboy said that, a quite emotional film, made even more hard hitting by being based on a true story. The very end is always a quiet moment to reflect.
Convoy - a must watch for any 1980s CB fan, but what happened to the ending? Not sure it is anything "special", but like all the Smokey and the Bandit, and Any Which Way but Loose series, good, harmless entertainment.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Star Wars - you can tell Pinky isn't looking ;D. The originals stand up well, esp the first. Newer 3 are naff, whole films to set up single set pieces. But the newer ones do have Natalie Portman in, so not all is lost!
I'm a bit of a Gweneth Paltrow fan. Nought to do with her looks, obviously ;D. Sliding Doors and Shallow Hal are 2 interesting films, if not particularly great in their own right.

Midnight Express
Mad Max 1
Crimson Tide
Hurt Locker (on surround sound)
Bullit
The Italian Job
Razzo, I'm surprised you wrote this film to the top of your list ??? :(
its definitely an anti-Turkish film..
"Negative criticisms focused mainly on its unfavorable portrayal of Turkish people. In Mary Lee Settle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Lee_Settle)'s 1991 book Turkish Reflections, she writes, "The Turks I saw in Lawrence of Arabia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_of_Arabia_(film)) and Midnight Express were like cartoon caricatures, compared to the people I had known and lived among for three of the happiest years of my life."[6] When the Lights Go Down criticizes the film as well, saying, "This story could have happened in almost any country, but if Billy Hayes had planned to be arrested to get the maximum commercial benefit from it, where else could he get the advantages of a Turkish jail"

I've not seen it (I think). A poor portrayel of a people/religion/kin does not necessarily make it a bad film, or at least a film not worthy of further discussion.
If that makes sense? As said, if I have seen it, I don't remember it, but that just my age!
-
In no specific order:
Taken
Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Under Siege
The Peacemaker
The [original] Italian Job
The Rock
The Great Escape

Sorry if you were offended Cem but i didn't see the film as a dig at the Turkish community in any way, shape or form, the only Turkish people portrayed in the film were prison guards, i don't think it would have had the same impact if the prison guards who were a bit brutal had been fluffy bunnies & treated the inmates with kid gloves so everyone could live happily ever after, but i suppose thats Hollywood mate

Films that if I see scheduled I'd try and sit down and watch .
The Talented Mr Ripley . Didn't take to it first time round but second time found the plot quite sinister. Philip Seymour Hoffan steals it .
Point Blank . Lee Marvin at his menacing best , a real hard man .Doesn't need gore and special effects to chill .
Howards End & The Remains of the Day . Two of my favourite Anthony Hopkins films . Gentle good acting.
Das Boot . Sweaty , smelly , frightening realism .A world away from the crisp clean spacious Hollywood sub films . I never tire of that movie .
The original 39 Steps . Hitchcock /Robert Donet from long long ago . A favourite wet afternoon film that takes me back to a time when the world was a much bigger place and a trip from London to Perthshire and back was like going round the world. Ahhh...
-
Agree with almost all of the ones in this :y
Am I the only one who is going to mention Bourne without which we would not have the current (good) Bond films with Mr Craig :y
-
Gladiator
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Goodfellas
Trainspotting
The Godfather films
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Apocalypse Now
Fight Club
-
Aaah yes, Cuckoos nest. Old Jack does do a very good nutter. :y
Bit like Rutga Hower in Blade Runner.
-
Samurai films and westerns that based on them :
The seven samurai - The Magnificent Seven
The Bodygard (Yojimbo - directed by Akira Kurosawa) - A Fisftul of Dollars - The Last Man Standing
and of course :
Forrest Gump
Runaway train
Rocky series - it was frenetic to see the old champion to fight in the last episode. I'm sure the process of moviemaking was real and hard challange for Sly as well. If I know well he was close to his sixties at the time.
Fight Club
Private Ryan :y

Indeed, the (first 3) Bourne ones, very good films, and Bond-esque, but more up to date, more intense, more realistic than the Brosnan Bond films that preceded it.
Not seen the 4th, not sure how it will work without Bourne... ...same shit, different bloke?
