Howdy.
I'm transplanting an Omega 3.0 V6 into a Reliant Scimitar, and plan to use the Omega fuel pump and swirl pot in the Scimitar tank.
Looking at the swirl pot, I'm curious. How does fuel get into it? The only opening I can see in the base is a spring-loaded valve, which looks like it's part of the fuel return.

They are so reliable, I've never had one out. Soz can't help more :-[

not being funny but wouldnt a 3.9 rover be better--lighter weight-all alloy and simpler to wire up if you you holley 390 carb instead of fuel injection
-
I really wasn't thinking. :-[ All I had to do was set the swirl pot into a couple of inches of water in the sink to find that it does flow in through the valve. Sorted.
Good to know it's a reliable pump, TheBoy :)
Symes, The Rover V8 is alright, but IMO (and it's only my opinion) it's had it's day as a conversion. It wasn't what I wanted to do with this car. I wanted a modern powerplant. As for simpler to wire-up, this is a ground-up rebuild, and I'll be using the Omega loom rather than splicing the engine management into a 40 year-old bunch of wires :)

I think I'm with you on not using the Rover V8. They need a fair bit of work to match the performance of an X30XE, and they didn't wear well, so finding one that doesn't need a fair bit of work just to bring it back to its' original spec. is not easy.

Thanks Rob. Burtle and Lozzzzz are on Scimitarweb too, so I've seen their build threads.
(Though so far these Scimega conversions have used external pumps.)

Agreed on the Rover V8, it gives no more power, is rather fragile adn requires quite a bit of power.
Its actualy about the same weight as the X30 as well plus the fuel consumption is much worse, its also quite a bit taller.
Also finding a manual box for one is challenge these days

I'd be willing to bet that the available gearboxes would put the weight of the combination well over X30XE plus manual box as well. They are a bit chunky, from memory.

Depends which you go for, LT77 and R380 are not the lightest (plus there also not very reliable!), the Supra box is pretty light but so will your wallet be after having bought the adaptor bell housing. T5's are expensive to buy and not very light either!

carburettor ?....... :o

carburettor ?....... :o
it's that thing on top with a hole down the middle & Weber/Holly on the side of it!!! ;) ;) ;) And produces a decent induction noise. ::) :y

<shudder> I'm glad I'm not paying to pour fuel through one a pair of them any more. ;D

Me too! I decided some years ago to never have a car inflicted with one of the damn things again.
As for a Rover instead of an X30XE, it's such a backwards step; less power, much more expensive, suffers badly from cam wear, physically it's huge for its modest capacity, have you seen the price of a 390 Holley/weber carb recently, etc etc.

At least the venerable
Buick Rover engine has the right number of cylinders, though ;) ;D

The challenge is finding one using them all still! ;D ;D
