Title: over cooling

Picked up an omega 2.2 petrol last week, on the way home I noticed that the temp gauge did not get above 75, changed thermostat today still the same temp showing on gauge, cabin heater gets warm but not hot, top hose semi hot bottom hose is  cold radiator cooling fan is running, could this be a sensor problem ??? any ideas anyone as I need to get this sorted before refilling with new antifreeze.

Hi mate, my first guess would have been your thermostat but as you've changed it you can rule that out. I would give the system a full flush and reverse flush, if that doesn't would then it could be your radiator isn't on it's last legs.

I can see what you mean, rad cooling fan should operate when coolant is hot towards top of the scale (controlled by electronic stat/sensor as you mention...rather than coolant stat which you've done). So if it is running continuously, even when cold (not to be confused with A/C fans) especially during winter you are getting 'extra' cooling that you don't want. I've not owned a 2.2 but if like mine, I rarely hear the rad fan in winter. Could you disconnect the fan and run for a while and see what difference it makes (keeping an eye on the temperature)? Someone on here will know where the stat/sensor is on 2.2 (could be in one of the site guides) so you could equally check across it with a multimeter? HTH

thanks for the replys guys,time for some more investigating and testing today as it in not peeing with rain,going to disconect the fan and go for a spin and see what result that brings then it will be a rad flush,as the heater is getting warmish in the car i am ruling out the hbv at the moment, as it is getting frosty in the mornings i want to gat it refilled with antifreeze asap.

 ;D ;D all sorted new temp sensor fitted to the rad,been for a good run and the temp is now sitting at 90 and the heater is now hot not warm, :y :y.
