One of the roller for the cambelt completely disintergrates while driving the car at around 20 miles per hour. I tried starting the car and it would not start so had the car towed. Question is, is it possible in such a scenario not to damage the engine??? The belt did not snapped just came loose. If damage occured what am i looking to replace. I am dreading the thought of having to get another engine from UK as i live donkey miles away. Please help!

would think you bent valves there mate when you turned engine over trying to start it :'(

Please bear with me but are valve a straight replacement? I mean no skimming or anything of that sort. Luckily for me labour is super cheap here.

If you are very lucky. You'd need to check the valve guide too for damage. :-\

I was extremely lucky as my engine was not damaged at all. I fitted a new gates belt and rollers and all seems well, however i have noticed the car rev counter is not exceeding about 4500 rpm. Any ideas?

Camshaft sensor

Camshaft sensor
Probably. But could be any one of those codes that causes the ECU to apply a 4500rpm rev limit.
You need to get an OBD2 code reader on it to read the codes and find the cause.

TBH, I'm amazed that it runs at all if the cambelt idler disintegrated :-\ :-\
Unless it's an 8 Valve engine :-\ :-\ ???

does it sound ok???

Car runs very rough and incase you turn on the AC the car goes off. I did spot alot of oil in the plugs well and i suspect that is why it is running rough.. I had a spare brand new camshaft sensor and had it fitted and now once the car warms up the the rev counter is going all the way up!! Engine has full power as always but does cut out every now and then. But i have a persistent message that keeps coming up:
P1405 Present
( 8 ) Feedbacksensor Exhaust Gas Recirculation
What is it?

I checked autodata and that code is an EGR fault, maybe worth removing the EGR valve and giving it a clean :y

Usually oil in the plug wells means failed cam cover gaskets. However with your initial problem, that usually causes top end engine damage, I would fear a damaged head and valves. :'( :'(

Actually the cam cover gaskets have failed and we replaced them as well. I am finding it hard to believe but the engine was not damaged at all..the car runs very smooth and the rev counter goes all the way to max...I replaced the camshaft sensor and all is running so well now

I am very happy to report that the miggy is back in top shape after i replaced the coil pack ..that is what was causing the rough running. Thanks everyone here for your contribution and i am so pleased to have the Miggy back after a week of pulling my hair out... and i must have been so lucky not to have damaged the engine and next time i will replace the cambelt and roller either at 40k miles or 4 years. I was due to replaced the cambelt last december and i decided to push my luck!!!

You may well be ok,the pumps don't seem to take kindly to the extra tension applied when a new belt is fitted :y
