After saying I would let the Vx breaker engineers do their stuff and fit the replacement DIS, I am now going to do it myself when the part arrives by post for £32 all in.
I spent last night worrying about driving my car the 6 miles to the breakers when a) It's MOT ran out this morning and b) severe damage could be done to the engine/exhaust system when 'chugging' like a wounded tractor all that way.
I have read the excellent Maintenance Advice piece by Jimbob on DIS pack replacement. However, apart from it being a very awkward job, which I intend to approach from the top of the engine (as JB states correctly, how on earth can you approach it from underneath when so much is in the way I know from my time spent under the car!!), is there any other advice you all can give me to assist this process please??
Thank you in advance.

I dont know how you could do it from underneath - having done mine recently i removed the wiper motor and linkage for ease of access. Just don't bang the linkage against the body of the car when pulling it out :y

Thanks :y
I have now had the wipers and scuttle off so many times, along with all the other top engine parts, I have lost count! ;D ;D
Looking at mine though I have never considered taking the wiper motor out as you, and Jimbob, suggests. When unconnecting and connecting the plugs from the top of the DIS pack I have never noticed it in the way ::) I will now review that. ;)

I have clumsy hands - thats probably what it is!

Believe me mine are not exactly dainty as it is in our genes thanks to my great grandmother who was nicknamed "Battling Annie", a big built East End London washer woman who according to legend took on all comers, men and woman, fighting them in the street! What a legend :y

Lizzie.
You will find it easier if you remove the windscreen scuttle panel as that allows you to see what you are doing..Plenum removed and inlets blocked with rags.I then removed the HBV and associated plumbing as it then gives more than adequate space to remove and refit the dispack.
HBV can be left connected to pipes just undo the quick release fittings at the bulk head and move it all out the way.
Make VERY sure you get the plug leads back on the correct way and in the right order as you don,t want to end up doing it twice.Number 6 is the worst as its the shortest lead and requires patience.

Thanks Amba :y

The first time i attempted the job i went about it with the mistake of having a short sleeve T shirt on ::) second attempt was with a thick sleeved coat on but that dont stop the sore knee syndrome kneeling up on the engine . It helps if you have pipe cleaner arms but looking back it was a doddle of a job :-X ;D

It's a 45 minute job by removing the plenum and inlet manifold ;)

I only removed my wipers and lower scuttle, took about an hour in all....
And I did it without a "Tunnie"!!! Lol....

The trouble with 'Tunnie's' are that they are cheap flimsy things which dont like exposure to alcohol. ;D

I'm waiting for Halfrauds to launch the Tunnie "Professional" range, myself. ::)

Only downside is a tendency to argue .... :) otherwise running costs quite cheap .. :)
