Dave Lee Travis arrested on suspicion of sexual offences against children and others.
This is getting out of hand. Who next? Mr Blobby?

Is it too early to say that Jack Duckworth fingered me, or should I wait a bit ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Yep, the witch hunt is on.
There may be genuine cases indeed, but there will be those who point fingers, making unjust accusations, just to get their 15 minutes of fame or cash, or both! :( :(

Historical fact. In early Victorian times it was legal for girls to marry aged 12. This was changed to 16 later in the Victorian era (1884)
Today it is still legal for a girl of 16 to marry, provided she has the consent of a parent or guardian. A woman aged 18 can marry without parental consent.
Some unsavoury things went on in Victorian England. :-\ :-\ :-\

Where they unsavoury things, or just unsvoury to our modern palette ? we are animals, albeit thinking ones but animals none the less. Mother nature dictates when it is time for sexual activity, not some law makers.
Please don' t read this the wrong way, I am not sticking up for paedos.

Indeed Opti, all the way back as well.
In medieval times in Nobel born or regal circles some girls under 10 were betrothed and married, but only had children after puberty and their first period. These are some interesting facts often also involving the politics between ruling families and keeping the strength of their line:
+ In 1396, Richard II of England was joined in marriage to young Isabel of France, who had been 7 years old when their engagement was announced the previous year in Paris.
+ Bianca of Savoy, Duchess of Milan was married aged 13yo (1350), and aged 14yo when she gave birth to her eldest son, Giangaleazzo (1351).
+ Theodora Comnena was aged 13yo when she was married King Baldwin III of Jerusalem (1158)
+ Agnes of France was 12yo when, widowed, she was married to Andronicus Comnenus, Byzantine Emperor (1182).
+ St Elizabeth of Portugal was aged 12yo when she was married to King Denis of Portugal and gave birth to three children shortly thereafter.
+ Caterina Sforza was betrothed aged 9yo, married aged 14yo, and gave birth aged 15yo.
+ Lucrezia Borgia was married to her first husband aged 13yo and bore a son within a few years.
+ Beatrice d'Este was betrothed aged 5yo and married aged 15yo.
We must never forget that this was all happening in the context of the time. Like for a woman could be very short, maybe living to 35 - 40 years but many dying a lot earlier in childbirth or from the many fatal illnesses around at the time.
In Nobel and Regal circles there was tremendous pressure to produce heirs, especially males (Henry VIII is a prime example of that situation!) before the woman became too old and baron, or died in early childbirth.
A young woman was considered most fertile in her early tender years and needed to be mated with as early as possible, within of course a marriage.
All this history of course NEVER gives any man the right to touch sexually "a child, a minor", as we live in very different days with woman now often opting to have, and being able to have, babies into their forties. Life expectancy is of course also vastly different with many of today's young looking forward to a life reaching 100 years of age, barring war and human self destruction from other means!! ::)

Fair point Mr Opti - but you forgot to mention that you were of course quoting the facts about England/UK. Much to my amazement I heard on R4 yesterday that it is in fact perfectly legal NOW for girls of 12 to have sex in certain countries (Arab ones). And in others from the age of 14 or 15. So watch out if you take your Daughter on holiday to Egypt - I'm being 100% serious as that point was queried by the presenter and the person he was interrogating ..........

Forget 'Arab Countries'. The legal age of consent is 13 in Spain.

Noel Edmunds Tony Blackburn and Diddy David Hamilton must be crapping them selves at the mo, just waiting for some one to accuse. All of them of the same era and all at the BBC. ??? ???

Times haven't moved on that much even closer to home :'(
How else could a pregnant Indian woman be allowed to die as a direct result of not being allowed to have an emergency abortion simply because the Irish doctor felt that, being in a catholic country, he could not carry one out. >:(
As it happens, she was miscarrying, and died from blood poisoning. Had the pregnancy been terminated two days earlier, then she may well have lived :-\ Two people dead as a direct result of ignorance :-X

More to the point, what have the doctor's religious beliefs got to do with the patient's medical needs? >:(

Yes, indeed it was, but that would ruin a good story. ;)

I don't know. Does the law of the land prohibit abortion through medical necessity in addition to convenience?

Poor old DLT, its more of the same and will probably come to nothing other than a pack of lies.......
;D ;D
STMO123 did not realise that Mr Blobby and his creator were the first done, but out of sight and sound. :D :D and probably liked it....... ;)
I have said all along that this issue is now well and truly out of hand and that many, many celebs and others who attain a limelight spot will be harranged and hounded by those with a wish for a bit of the spotlight. It is the direct fault of the gutter press and the radio/TV news presenters/readers to a lesser extent because they are prompted what to say by the show producer via their earpieces. The press has now proven to one and all that it simply cannot be self regulated and should be brought into line by a single authority to hand out massive fines and penalties (mandatory jail of at least 12 months plus disbarment form any future role in the industry) to those who transgress. They should also make those employed as presenters, researchers and assistants fully liable in law for any errors they make which results in any innocent person (innocent UNTIL proven guilty remember) being named with the same penalties. Surely in this world there are many more newsworthy items worth reporting, or are they simply in it to cause as much uproar as they can for the five minutes of fame and a by-line.
On ITV's This Morning, Schofield (who appears to believe he is a god and answerable to no-one including his producers and show directors) made another massive balls up by once again yawping about something he had not the correct facts for and for making a written note visible to all viewers. It was his intention to disclose the content of that note to the viewers.
It has to be said about Schofield, that becuase of his love for the camera which he is constantly glancing for the active one while presenting, that he knew full well where the cameras were and were aimed. One day he and his like will hopefully find themselves on a wrong end of a very expensive law suit and for me that day cannot come soon enough. Maybe even one day he will not bully his lady co-presenter and allow her to have her own opinion too, but that is only wishful thinking. My good wife now watches the CH5 or CNN news again because she has gone right off her once idolised 'fancy man' Schofield. Personally I never did like his methods or, his obvious to me, latent femininity.
When can we expect to be able to watch the news as it used to be...(old sod ;)), an honest discourse of the true facts and not these mostly unblievable stories of todays newsrooms for which the truth and fact now seem to be wholly irrelevant? Have we really reached the stage where it is only the press circulation figures, the radio listener numbers and TV viewer numbers that count?

Sorry, but got to get this one in....
What about the Burmese girls of 8 who married and die in childbirth because their bodies were not ready?
Who in hell would do that to an 8 year old other than a total perv??????????????????????
And what sort of lousy (I canot say civilised) country would permit it??????????????????????
Blood boiling? TOO RIGHT >:( >:(

Abortion in Ireland is only permitted to save the mother, but is only case law, not outdated legislation. The point is simply that in no way, shape or form should it be right that this should have happened. The womans plea to have the baby aborted was ignored. That Ireland is a catholic country is just a poor excuse for negligence, and probably as much to do with the fact that the patient was a woman and and Indian one at that. Probably won't find that in the inquest report though :-X

D.L.T is innocent its all a miss understanding he was just looking for the hairy cornflake!

I don't know if it has been stated already, but apparently all the female complainants were grown women at the time of the alleged assaults. There there should be no confusion between the Saville ( just vile) case and DLT's. ;)

After all the peadophile reports from the BBC, there is a shocking allegation that Micheal Parkinson was once f***ed by a bird while another man had his hand up it's arse.
