Having sold in-laws house today (following their death) - I cancelled the house insurance.
some of you may recall the saga of the Post Office who refused to insure the empty property and I took it to the Ombudsman - compensation was settled last week thankfully.
Now Adrian Fux who provided the empty property insurance at a high premium saying that underwriters will retain 65% of premium for 4 months cover - this is in small print of policy booklet I find but not in main set of papers they sent me early doors. Another Ombudsman job - not so much the money as the principle - such a high retention is a very material term and should be explained up front in my view

I cancelled a car insurance once because I was going abroad for a while. The policy was about 6 weeks old and I received a pittance of a refund. >:( Who was the broker? Adrian Flux! ::)

Breaking news: Insurance is a con.
I've known them to change details on a renewal and, if I hadn't checked, the policy would have been void.

Threat of Ombudsman plus strong arguments meant they offered a settlement tonight which I have accepted - £40 under what I wanted but not worth the further hassle.

and why do they pay such a paultry amount of you cancel after a short period? we;; the answer is that they've paid a chunk of your premium to the broker as comission and they cannot get it back. so you just get a share of the premium net of comission ( and profit margin
not you can guess Adrian Flux don't care as they have your commission in their pocket.....

They are a big insurer of kit cars and judging from the comments I've read from car owners who've experienced their service the above would seem to be accurate on many levels.
