Title: Decisions,decisions.
Post by: BazaJT on 17 November 2012, 17:05:16
The street we live on was made more "pedestrian freindly"some while ago by the council. This consisted of block paving the entire road and lowering the pavement so it merged with the road surface.Another part of the scheme was to alter parking,so instead of parking side on to the houses you now have a "block"of six parking spaces on one side of the street and the next "block"is on the opposite side diagonally opposite the first and so on down the road,so now you have to slalom down the street and cannot get two cars travelling in opposite directions down it,one has to either pull in to an empty parking slot or reverse back down the street[forgot to mention new parking regime is for cars to park nose or tail into kerb].Recently council posted pre-paid questionaire to all houses, asking if residents thought it should be made a one way street,if so should it run North/south or other way?Given our street is less than 1/4 mile long I'm not bothered which way it goes. The council have now sent out letters stating that as no consensus on direction was reached street will remain a two way street! So the problems of getting down it will remain. As we weren't consulted when they altered it in the first place why can't they make the decision as to which way a one way system will run?

That is probably what other residents thought, and so as no one bothered to strongly voice a preference you have got nothing from the council.  A good example of why you should always express an opinion when asked! ::) ::) ;)

Write to the council and explain the current problems and your preferred one-way direction as at least it will be of file so they consider further consultation.

Ah,a slight misunderstanding there, caused no doubt by my poorly constructed sentence.Whilst it remains true that I'm not bothered which way a one way system should operate on the street,I did indeed fill in the form expressing a preference, but did add that it would make no real difference to me which way was finally decided upon as the street is not long enough to worry about the "detour"It just really needs sorting as a lot of people use it as a "rat run"

Ah right :y  In that case I would speak to some of your neighbours to see what they voted for.  If enough have said as you have I would jointly approach the council and appeal on their decision to change their minds ;)
