So the General Synod of the Church of England has voted against women becoming Bishops. ::)
Now I'm not religious but I'm not anti-religion either, but what I don't understand is how the Church of England or any of the other religious establishments can get away with banning women from a job! :-\
Are they exempt from discrimination and equality laws? and if so why? ???
-
I was both surprised and disappointed by today's result...... :(
-
We have Omega Queens so why cant the C of E have female bishops ??? ;)
-
Worried about the many who threatened to take their ball and play elsewhere, I reckon. :(
With all the "equality" that's heaped on us in spades in every other aspect of life these days, it does make me wonder how long their stance will be unchallenged.
-
so the rumour's true that an Omega is a vicar's car. Only the CD down I guess.
-
Could have a monkey as a bishop for all I care ::) ;D ;D
-
It does anger me why the Church are allowed to have rules that the rest of civilised society cannot. Mind you ..... civilised society .....religion ....in the same sentence...... hmmm......... ::)

Oh hang on, it already is!!!!! :D ;D

All part of mans mostly successful efforts to repress women.
As far as I can tell the bible was cobbled up by men from a selection of writings showing man as the superior being. This is perpetrated today.
What truly amazes me is religious female members of our family believe it was the right decision.
Sad blow for women in my view.
-
Ahh the bible, in a library ,does that come under fiction. ?
-
I believe religous orders where parlty exempted from equality laws. As where certain institutions exempted from the smoking ban (westminster)
I also seem to remember one or two gentlemens clubs in london where exempted from taking female members. Maybe thathas changed, my memory is not what it used to be.

Yes, a very very bad decision and again devalues the Christian Church. proving to me it is still stuck in medieval England! They still think man is THE master of the universe, forgetting all the grief MANkind has given to the World, and still does, with often the blessing of their church! >:( >:( >:( >:( This makes me so angry! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
This is one reason I do not subscribe to a set religious organization, preferring to instead as a Child Of God to worship God privately.
This proves the point I made on another thread; it is not just Islam that discriminate against women, although they can be worse. ;)

I would sooner have the real Stone age Peasants Cleggy, as at least they would probably be Pagan, and that religion openly accepts women in all respect :D :D ;)

The Church develops but slowly...not too long ago (after 400 yrs :o) they also accepted that Earth is a planet. So not to worry there's hope !

Pope has now decided AD is wrong as Jesus was probably born before then, between 7 and 1BC.
This did make me laugh:

:'( Oh NO. Not the religious argument again..........
Simple question......If the bible supposedly states that there was never any prejudice against women then why were there never any female disciples? I can only assume that the gay brigade was rife even then ::) :D ;) ;) ;)
Obviously someone, an instigator, is trying to stir the pot and that person is probably a female after a higher positon at the trough.
Its all religious b*llocks anyway cos there still is no proof even with all of the science that abounds today. If there is no scientific evidence then as far as I am concerned it was one big lie so a few could hold power over the masses.
If anyone wants to believe in it then its up to them, I just don't see why they should expect everyone else to be bound by their beliefs and partake of ceromonies that are meaningless to those who do not believe in their waffle.
Take the wedding vows.....until death do us part......and they say that there is life after death so why that restriction? Suffer little children to come unto me....why should innocent children suffer? Some god that is....even if he did/does exist you can keep him to yourself cos I dont want him if that is the type of person he is :D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Bring it on.........but show the proof first!
