Was going to replace the aux belt tensioner and belt tonight to a 2,5 engine due the tensioner was whining, has been noisy only for a few days. It had seized today and the aux belt had snapped. Car had to be driven for a few kilometers, it had heated, not sure how hot, I assume it had not boiled.
So, to put it back on the road I do have the tensioner and belt to fit but what else should I check? Is there anything that will break immediately when it overheats? I remember reading that heads are not too prone to warp?

It will probably be fine, fit and try :y

I once blew the heater pipe off mums old Omega. Big cloud of steam and coolant all over the floor. Drove it 2 miles with no ill effects. Pretty good engine really :y

Ok, job is done, getting the remaints of the belt off was the most difficult one... for some reason it was put in so that I had to completely remove the SAI-pipe in front of engine, when putting back the belt it only needed to go through the smaller support near alternator... Well, anyway, car is now running and owner is satisfied, one or two hours spent, mostly wondering what to dismantle and how; as soon as I took the inlet trumpet-thingy out the engine bay I could see how to tackle it, then it was only a few minutes to put all back together. Some anti-freeze in (it had thrown a good litre out....) it started nice and non-whining, warmed up ok, no air seems to have gotten in system etc.
Some european and japanese four-pots would have had warped head in this situation but sturdy ol´Omega is still going strong ;D
