anyone know what time span if any between an employer making someone redundant & doing away with their job & then being able to employ someone to fill that post? I didn't think an employer could do this as although the person is made redundant & loses their job it is the job they did that has been done away with. Just found out i have to help train up newbie who replaces a good mate made redundant about 2 years ago to do the same job :-\

I have heard that if the new job comes with a different job title then it could be almost immediately. Allthough that is only hearsay I am afraid.

I don't know the time span, but my mate was made "redundant" and then immediately re employed 3 days a week as a contractor doing the same job.
I would have thought two years was "long enough".

This seems to be the norm >:(
TBH, all the employer has to do is add/remove one word from the job description and it's a different job anyway ;)

There are rules afaik. But so easy to get round...

The employment laws are so biased against the employee that despite the wonderful wording for all cases of dismissal there is practically no recompense worthy of note. Solictors advertising no win no fee will not bother with you unless you earn at least £100k and appear to have a good foundation for wrongful dismissal :( :( :(
Redundancy makes the position redundant not the person, so the day after a new postion appears with a slightly different job title or minor change to duties, nothing you can do.
Way of the world I'm afraid and now they want to lengthen the time of service before you can even consider an industrial waste of time tribunal >:( >:(

i think its 6 months and they have to prove that the job is totaly diferant if they want to employe sombody earlier
