Title: Ford Ka
Post by: Andy B on 23 November 2012, 14:47:36
Anyone point me in the direction of the reverse light switch on a 05 Ka please. I don't fancy mauling around on the floor looking for it  ::)  ::)

I was a bit vague, dependant on the car, it should be either on the side, or on the top  :y. It's got two wires going to it I believe, been a long time since I last checked one.

It's my niece's car. She said she'd no reverse light, so put a known OK lamp in & it's still not working, so thought of reverse light switch. A quick Google suggests I'm right, but I wasn't prepared to start dismantling stuff to find it, so was after an idea of where it is. She's going back home on Sunday - I'm working tomorrow & Sunday so it'll be her Dad's problem!  ::)  ::) ;D ;D

A tad unfair as the Ka only has one known rust point.......it's located between the front & rear bumper.

Is that the engine based on the old Kent engine that was fitted to Escorts, Capris etc?

IIRC Ford spat their dummy out with EU bureaucrats at the time because Ford had wanted to fit an ultra low burn engine to the Ka that didn't require cats to obtain low emissions. EU Bureaucrats insisted on cats, so Ford stuck the first thing they could find that would fit in the engine bay & scrapped all the development of the low burn engine.

As per fitted to Ford Anglias I think you will find, the ones which suffer black death, noisey tappets (which wear) and bore wear....

Hmmm....and nothing to do with the fact it didn't work so the project was abandoned.

 ;D

But the cars are quite deceiving , from the outside they look pretty much rust free ... tell tell signs are rust around the fuel cap . I know an mot place that rub hands laughing when they see one booked in  ::) usually they order more sheet steel and welding rods in advance  ::) Rust from inside out just like my trusty old cortina  :-[

Noted many Fiestas of that era doing the same, Focus seems a lot better although Mondeos also seem to suffer which is odd.

You only have to look on egay at the mot failures , last time i seen rust like that was on a datsun cherry  ;D
I almost bought one , a nice looking black shiny 02 plate up for £500 then he showed me the mot failure list ...almost every fail was structural inc seat belt Angkor points  :o
