Advice required please : 2001 2.6 MV6 auto
Is it possible to replace the non variable intermittant wiper stalk with the varible one .
The variable one simply increases or decreases time delay of the wiper sweep on intermittant with its roller adjuster (I think :-\)
Thinking that maybe the tall yellow relay may need to be changed to suit , also any TECH 2 programming required :-\ :-\
TIA Al :y

check the maint guide on how to retrofit....
bit of wiring needed....
or fit a VW 99 relay :y

Go that way IMHO .. brilliantly simple ... and it works !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually think it is better than the stalk method, as once used to it the "timing" is so easy to set :)

I prefer the variable stalk, I can't get on with the VW system.
Sadly, TBE has the equally annoying rain sensitive ones.

thanks guys, ;) i already have a replacement stalk . . . but may just try the VW 99 route first to see how that goes :y :y
Sorry, did not realise there was a Retro fit guide on here for it :-[ :-[ :-[

good idea :y
what is part (catalog) number of this vw 99 relay?
it would be easier to find
or could someone post a photo :)
thanks

VW part number is:- 357 955 531

Got one on the 3.2, its no match for the previous way.
Its very quick and very easy with the old stalks, I find it frustrating using the relay.

Must disagree .. I find the relay simple and intuitive ...
Its raining but not that hard....
single "flick" of the wiper, "up and off".... then when the screen is just about needing another, up to intermittent and leave it .... relay will now give intermittent wipes at the time between the flick and the select. When you want to change the "timing" .. down to off and repeat the above ... timing is set by your "eyes", not by fiddling with a rheostat.. :)

Oh I understand how I works, and first use is ok. What I like about old way is when on intermittent, you could easily flick down one click or two up and down, depending how weather changed.
With new one you have to cancel stalk and re-time, rather than just adjusting the dial, which is much quicker.

Agreed, I couldn't get on with the VW99, too much faffage.

Are these vw relays reliable :-\ wondering new vs used :-\

I am curious as to What is the usual time delay for the standard non variable intermittant sweep before the VW99 mod is made?
As the OP on this thread I asked the question of upgrading because on the first position (intermittant ) the wipers sweep every 1.5 seconds .
I am thinking this is way to fast & must be incorrect /a fault :-\
When I recently brought the car there was no intermittant wipers working at all. That first position of the switch did nothing . Then on speeds 1 & 2 they would not "park" , but just stop wherever you switched off.
Changed the tall yellow relay & wipers now park fine but intermittant sweep time is as above ( only a 1.5 sec delay )
Does anyone know the part No. for the correct yellow relay. the one fitted now is 90 494 187 .
:-[ :-[can't check the number of the old one that was in the car when I got it as SWMBO chucked it out in the rubbish ::) ::) ::)
TIA Al :y

That one is for wiper stalk with intermittent wheel
the wipers sweep every 1.5 seconds
If no variable stalk fitted, that`s about right

If memory serves that was what I had before fitting the 99 relay. The old 2.5 had the rheostat which was good, but the "fixed" interval of the 3.2 annoyed me immensely, so the 99 relay is a godsend.
-
You will get very little delay if you have the timer/relay for the older style stalk with the newer stalk since the old stalk adds resistance to extend the interval.
You can change a resistor in the module to increase the delay, get the correct part which gives you a longer fixed delay, change the stalk of fit a "99" variable relay.
There were plentiful supplies of the "99" relay on Ebay when I bought mine. Must fit it some time ::) (it's going in the Westfield, which has no intermittent wipe currently).

Hardly any delay at all Kevin. I said 1.5 secs , but its even less than that actually.
There still seems to be plenty of "99's" on e bay around the £10 mark . So will order one of those :y :y
