Title: From Banger today to Classic Tomorrow............
Post by: Vamps on 24 November 2012, 20:22:26
We are driving future classics............ :y :y  Well some of us drive a marque that has been famous since WW2, but never mine.... :D :D

January 2013 Practical Classic Magazine came today and to my surprise there is an article in it that includes the Omega, and a mention of how there are no model specific clubs but 'the model is discussed in several online forums..... :y :y

The article title is..... 'Five brilliant barges for minimal money'

Cars that once cost and arm and a leg and now cheap as chips.... :D :D

The Omega is promoted alongside the Mercedes 500 SEL, Jaguar X300, Ford Scorpio and the BMW 7 series E32................ :) :)

I have a copy of a road test comparison of the original chrome bumper Senator which was driven alongside the equivalent Mercedes and BMW models and did very favourably.Badge "snobbery"can still have a lot to do with it,personally I have no problem at all[unlike the Top Gear lot]in riding behind the Vauxhall Griffin,I do own a Jag XJ[X300]too but the Omega is just about as comfy, suffers on build quality but compare prices when they were new!

Home built based on a single photo of a 'Concept car' essentially based on a Mk1, looks good but can't find any pictures, even that are accessible from the Magazine - still going to look thoug as Guy asked for a picture, though I would have thought that he also got the mag.......... :D :y :y

I also noticed that you buy a Bently or a Roller cheaper than most old Ford's or a Mini...... :'( :'( :'(

I know, I want a little toy, but the Mini is so expensive and the Green Goddess is so big.......swmbo not as keen....... ::) ::) ::)

She is worried about her Mig in the winter as My saloon was crap, she always had an estate, we ended up putting 3 bags of sand in the back of my saloon....well she has a saloon now, so I suggested we bought another, but cheap, 4x4, the type of thing I could use as a play thing whilst looking like I was supporting her.....she says 3 cars is a waste of money, having one rot away on the drive............ ::) ::)  At this rate I might have to put my foot down and just do it, bugger the consequences, she can't huff forever...... :D :D

Ah,The pig.I can well remember in Belfast in the 70,s you could here the transmission whine from them a mile or so before they came into view. ;D

Balleeks - momentarily forgot my self imposed exile from general chat.  ::)

Yes, I could go for that!! :D :D :D

It would be cheaper to run than the Tiger Tank, and more manoeuvrable ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

I do like a big gun though ;D ;D ;D ;D

How many gallons per mile?

I know the Tiger is about 2.5 gallons per mile.  Can this beat it?

It makes all the difference when you buy a new tank! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Now I could live with that symes! :y :y

Peace man :-* :-* :-* :-* :D ;)

The trouble is - back to the gun - the one on that tank looks like a pea shooter!  I want an 88mm like on the Tiger tanks.  If I am going to clear traffic on the M25 I really, really need that...........that's what I want............really really want.............(got carried away!! ;D ;D) a 88mm! 8) 8) :y

Back to the bit about the Mk1 Cortina, my mate has the only 1962 4 door model ever produced. He bought it from the origional owner, who bought it from Ford at the Earls Court motor show in October,62. It was basicly a pre production model. he has all the paperwork for it to back everything up about its history. The Cortina club took 5 years to recognise it for what it was. Lots of anomalys on it compared to other Cortinas.

Could you explain that one.  I am missing something here which I thought I knew.

I understood the Consul Cortina Mk1 was launched in 1962 in both 2 and 4 door versions.

Did the first 4 door actually follow in 1963? ???

....and back to the original point....  ::)  :P

When was the last time anyone saw a Ford Scorpio on the road?  :-\  As they were the Omega's competitor I'd say The Mig's have done rather better over time!!  8)

Edit: Just done a quick ebay search and there are ..... 7 Scorpios listed!
Edit2: and 5 on Autotrader....  ;D
Edit3: Just checked and they stopped making Scorpios in 1998, I thought they stopped about the same time as the Omega....  :-[

Sensors I'd agree with, but the injectors are bullet proof!
