Oh, that reminds me of my first jaunt to Le Mans many years ago.
Hooked up with a couple in a yellow V6 Dutton. Overheated every time we got caught in traffic "the cooling fan almost seems to make it worse!".
Yep, that'll be because it's blowing the wrong way. ::)
First of the many faults that it exhibited that weekend. Still, at least they weren't trying to claim a Pontiac Fiero with a tacky GRP body on top was a real Ferrari. ;D

Sadly its a V6 boat anchor.....

i used to love that 3litre essex engine, great in the old capri's. bit old now though. think i'll stick with the vauxhall v6 in mine !

More power and less weight, never was a fan of the old iron V6 in the Fords as it was pretty crap compared to some of the twin cam four pots and the Rover V8 plus there were some very good straight sixes around in that era

Yes, it was a horribly asthmatic lump and weighed a ton! I reckon even back in its' day a lightly breathed-on Pinto would have hustled it along much quicker!
I remember looking for a new car with my dad in the early 90's. Test drove a 12v Scorpio and a 24v Senator. Talk about night and day! Guess which one won? ;D

Even a smart could make a good noise if you fit a viscous fan and piss with the exhaust ;D ;D :y

have to disagree, i loved the essex v6, was ok when worked on, good torque and power. i had nitrous on one of them too. the 2.8 cologne was never quite there, i think i am biased though as i have had alot of capri's !

Actually rover v8 lighter than ford essex v6 And omega boat anchor and produces more torque lower down rev range

Rover V8 is the same weight as the Omega V6 with less power in 3.5/3.9/4.0 form (torque is less important on a light car) :y
Plus finding a good one is hard, tuning one is VERY expensive., getting a gearbox....almost impossible now

Rover V8s do sound good though! Always have to pop my head out to have a look when I hear a V8 coming, and am usually disappointed when a Rangie/Disco comes round the corner...

can run taller gear ratios and different cam and rhoads lifters-£200, V8s sound way better than poxy v6 any day of the week

You will have to let me know where I can get the likes of a decent can (hurricane, typhoon etc ) and a set of lifters for that price. Plus you also need a full set of gaskets plus a decent timing chain and gears to do such a change and even then you will struggle to see 200 bhp from a 3.5.
Add in the need for valve guide machining on one of the above cams plus the preference for dual springs on the valves and the price quickly rockets
