Title: cruise control
Post by: Jacobite on 30 November 2012, 12:28:40
I recently bought a 2003 2.6 v6 cd auto and I love the car. Only thing missing is cruise control. I was informed by Vauxhall that it would cost £2500 to install, thats nearly 3 times what I payed for the car.

Can this be right, or can I get it done cheaper.

Any help or advice would be very welcome.

Given your location, PM Marks DTM Calib in (South) Nottingham, he will be able to sort it all out for a very good price ;)

That was quick, thanks for the replies guys.
Vauxhall told me my model did not have fly-by-wire throttel hence the cost.

Marks DTM Calib, I live in Thurmaston, but I do believe the missus wants to go to Nottingham tomorrow afternoon.

Don't you kno nuffink ??

Cruise Control, sir, requires a specially modified gearbox with ring laser gyros in order that your speed can be monitored and hence "controlled"; without an accurate reference from the gyro's the new ECU has no idea what speed you are doing, hence it cannot "control" it. Once fitted the new gearbox, with laser gyros will be able to firstly, sense the speed you are doing, then hold that speed by recognising any deviation from it and taking the required action.

Fitting the new gearbox is a 2 day task, then setting up and testing the Cruise Control is a 5 day task, including overnight Hotel bills, as the system needs at least a 200 mile "cruise" to validate the data.

Of course, as this is a "retro-fit" we cannot guarantee full compatibility with such an old vehicle and are unable to offer any form of warranty whatsoever.

Please enter your card details now.

Sadly not around tomorrow.

However Thurmaston is easy as I drive from Rugby to Nottingham every weekday and use the A46.

First of all you need a cruise stalk which is part number 9181011

What a load of bollux - all 2.6s are dbw (drive by wire) - still what do they know they only built the car.  Says a lot for Vx servicing!
As said requires a new "cruise" stalk fitted and connected to existing wiring loom, and activating with Tech 2 :y

Congratulations you have the only non drive by wire 2.6 V6 in the world.Your dealer should be offering you a fortune for such a unique car. :D
These people are either too retarded to be allowed out without adult supervision or they are fraudsters and thieves who should be shut down immediately,if not sooner. >:(

I have a 2002 2.6 CD and had the same problem, as others have said, £30 for a stalk and a chat with Tech 2. Easy to fit takes about 20 mins and I am no mechanic the wire by the way is folded back on itself just below the multi plug, cant remember the colour though, but its pretty obvious.

Stalk fitted, took all of 10 minutes. A lot easier than I thought it would be.
