Title: Advice please
Post by: dbug on 01 December 2012, 17:42:26
Just received my Xmas bonus from the Government as an OAP - looking for some advice on how to spend it.  I was gobsmacked to say the least in seeing my bank balance increase by the princly sum of £10 - ffs what shall I spend it on?  ;)

Go on a long journey on your (free) bus pass and use the £10 for refreshments - so you have a day out on the system!!

The retirement age for men is not 60 afaik ??? so the £10 cannot be an O.A.P. "freebie"  ;D
If you are on other 'Benefits' then there is a £10 Christmas Bonus, so perhaps this is what you've been sent dbug :-\
Also I believe the winter Fuel Allowance for O.A.P's  is between £100 and £300 depending on age and certain other benefit entitlements. :-\

Just retired @ 66½ years young - the £10 is the OAP Christmas Bonus for anyone receiving the state pension - I'm not on "Benefits" and never have been.
The winter fuel allowance for my age is £200

Trust that clarifies

It was a partial joke and observation Vamps ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

I know it is not directly for that, but to pay the energy bills you need everything the Government throws your way to pay for them. including the likes of that £10.  You also may not get any more now anyway the way things are going! ::) ::) :'(

Few lottery tickets?

Best idea to date mate - as above + a couple of Euromillions tickets.

Not much else it'll buy - not even a bottle of good wine :(

I personally think that pensioners on the state pension only should get free Gas, Electricity, TV License, Council Tax, and get the average wage as a pension. These people have worked all their lives and paid Tax and NI. :y :y :y

Not like the BB, single mixed race woman next door but one , 5 kids from 12 -3months 3 different fathers, who gets everything paid for. Never worked, never paid in, womb for benefits while pensioners struggle to keep warm or eat properly, what has this country become. ??? >:( >:( >:( >:(

I don't see why pensioners should get an average wage AND gas, elec, C.Tax paid aswell. Ok, a higher pension would be good for sure, but not everything else. Or maybe help with bills, but ot higher pension.
Paying NI all your life is for a reason - you get healthcare all your life. And you cannot tarnish everyone with the same brush. The woman next door will be a pensioner one day - so it follows that some pensioners were THAT woman in the past. But when old, of course a lot of women become sweet old ladies with no past.

Ah well, yes.  ;) That I understand.  ;D

I have no objectoin to an average wage being paid to pensioners. But if non-pensioners earning an average wage pay their way, then it should be the same for all.

Buy as much alcohol as you can for your tenner before the barstewards bring in minimum pricing.  >:(
