After the work carried out yesterday, oil and sump change, today I noticed mayonnaise in my oil cap which I have never experienced with this car before. What could cause this?
Could it be down to not letting the silicone fully go off before filling with oil? I noticed a bit of oil and a soft silicone in one area. Can't tell if its leaking though

some oils suffer it worse that others. gen vx is good, mobil 1 is poor for it...

Nothing to worry about :)
Mayo is caused by water vapour / mist getting mixed up with the oil as it gets dragged threw the plenum.
Remove the cap, give it a good wipe with a rag then take the car for a good run.
As for your sump, give it a day or two longer then nip up the bolts so they are all about equal.
I've had my sump off before and never re sealed it and had no leak

Pull the filler off and replace cap onto rocker cover ...no more mayo ;)

Thanks for all comments. That's reassuring. I need to get a 3/8"-1/4 adapter so I can torque the bolts. At the moment they are 'tight' ::)

This is true. However, Mobil 1 is so piss thin that it's a good oil for a cold winter's morning. :y

I only do short journeys and always use v.x.oil and i have never suffered with the white stuff in the cap....

This is true. However, Mobil 1 is so piss thin that it's a good oil for a cold winter's morning. :y
Depends on what grade of oil you use......

Best if it isn't condensing anywhere, which it may well not do if you take a way the 'cooling tower' that is the filler neck...

My last few oil changes have used Mobil oil the last using Mobil super 2000 I do mostly short journeys and dont get mayonnaise on the fiiler pipe, before using mobil I did. No iI bont have shares in Mobil :y

I use Millers oil, its good for cold mornings but it does the same thing......... I only do 20 miles a week at the minute hence the condensation...
