Hi, in June of this year I had to replace front exhaust section (including CAT) on my Omega 2.2 petrol 2002.
Had a quote from Vauxhall for £1090 + fitting so went to local fastfit.
Fast fit guys told me that they have stopped supplying these for Omega and Vectra 2.2 cos they make the engine management light come on.
I located a wholesale supplier locally and paid £190 (plus £45 for fast fit guys to install)
2 months later, the EM light came on. After changing the cam belt etc the local garage did a 4 gas report which showed a CAT problem.
The supplier changed the pipe and cat etc with no hassle and assured me thay had not had any other problems 'ever' so I
Had new section re-installed
2 Month latere, EM light is on again.
Any advice would be gratefully received?

Pattern cats for your car are a waste of money. They are notoriously problematic.Better off sourcing a good used genuine one. ;)

These cars have two lambda sensors ( the item that measures excess oxygen in the exhaust, pointing to combustion health ) - the second sensor is there to give the fuel injection an idea of the cat health.
What these cars suffer from is the slight degradation in cat health showing up in the system and illuminating the light. The only problem is that the threshold is far to low, much too low for the MOT for example.
My advice would be to get the car on an MOT gas-tester rig and only change the cat when the emissions are below MOT standard. Until then, ignore the lamp.

The assumption from your garage seems to be .. "if the lights on it must be the cat, change it" which is an expensive, and possibly incorrect assumption, IMHO.
PROPER diagnosis is needed ... :)

Hi Andy,
I do have the same prob on my omega 2.2 2001. the main reasons could be just two: lambda sensors or at times the LPG { not that LPG has a problem but it just interfares with the system of the car}. The good news is that there is nothing to worry, I have been driving my with the light on for more than two yrs now.

Pattern cats are utter shite for the Omega. Yet to see one last more than a few months.
A 2nd hand genuine is far better.
Although we still need to understand why its on - what are the codes? What are the trims?
