Title: Mrs Lazydocker's Car
Post by: Lazydocker on 30 April 2008, 21:05:36
Had a poke around SWMBO's car on Tuesday as the MOT's due on the 10th. :'( :'( :'(

I picked her up a J reg Orion 1.8 Ghia at the end of Feb last year for £175 as she was getting made redundant in March and had to give back her company car. Cost me about £75 (max) in parts and about 4 hours of my time last year to get it through its MOT. Changed both wishbones, a rear wheel bearing, and a metal brake pipe (made my own) and welded a little plate on rear chassis... Easy!!  :y :y

This year was not so good... Needed a wishbone (so I'd do a pair), the same wheel bearing, front pads and an almost complete inner and outer sill. Decided it wasn't worth doing so it went to it's makers today and I got £100 as I could deliver it to the yard. I hadn't even serviced it as she's only done 5k miles and I never got around to it!!!  :y :y :y :y

Got her another cheapie last night... 1993 on a K, Rover 220 Coupe wit an MOT which is just 9 days old and pretty comprehensive history!!  :y :y :y :y Cost me £260!! She's over the moon with it! Pity the Rover Tin worm has attacked the bottom of the drivers door  >:( >:( >:( >:(

The moral of the story... If you want to keep a car, don't put cheap bits on, especially as the ball joint was worse than the one I replaced last year!!  :o :o :o :o :o :o

If the car is a cheap runaround (£140 ish for a year's motoring is cheap!) then do as you wish!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Trouble is... She's already decided she likes this car and wants to keep it for a few years!  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Still, at least the Miggy's safe and I wont have to fight her for it any more!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

long as the missus is happy docker, and you dont have to keep spending on it,

i was working in chester a few yrs ago. was costing me a fortune, 56 return ticket getting back and forwards so i bought a car for 150 quid  got me back and forward to london for 3months every 2 weeks, then i sold it at end of job for 125 to a local  :) :)

surprising what you can achieve when you think about it
