Title: end of the world?
Post by: BazaJT on 10 December 2012, 18:50:25
It seems that the end of the world is nigh yet again.Apparently on 21st of this month the sun will be in perfect alignment between the Earth and the rest of our galaxy at which point a giant solar flare will be emitted, this will affect the Earths magnetic core creating several polar regions and causing massive tidal waves.According to the "experts" on the programme[shown over the weekend]the safest place to be during this event is anywhere else but Earth!I personally didn't see this programme but several people at work did and have been discussing it all day.

It is all based on the Mayan Calendar, which runs out on the 21st after 5,125 years of predictions!

I have heard it all before, but it depends on your strength of faith or not :D :D :D :D

Personally I am still booking appointments for 2013! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Utter tosh.

But what I find most disturbing is this:

David Morrison, an astronomer at Nasa, said: "At least once a week I get a message from a young person, as young as 11, who says they are ill and/or contemplating suicide because of the coming doomsday. I think it's evil for people to propagate rumours on the internet to frighten children."

Mayans themselves reject any notion that the world will end. Pedro Celestino Yac Noj, a Mayan sage, burned seeds and fruits to mark the end of the old calender at a ceremony in Cuba. He said: "The 21st is for giving thanks and gratitude and the 22nd welcomes the new cycle, a new dawn."

There you go,it just proves that every day's a schoolday!I didn't know of the Mayan calendar, and now I do.I too believe it's a load of bunk.It did make me wonder on a purely academic note how many times since the dawn of humankind has the end of the world been predicted?I find it deeply saddening that people especially kids should contemplate suicide over such a matter, when there is no proof positive of such an event.

That reminds me of the Cold War.

We lived in fear of the bombs being dropped, but it was even worse thinking of what would happen if we survived (for days / few weeks) after understanding what "the next day" would be like.

It was better to be killed straight off.

Thank God those days have past!! :y :y :y :y

Sounds like that bunch of money worshiping pagans not getting their own way again, ie having to do Christmas shopping for their 'loved ones'. Hopefully the high energy rays from the sun won't erase my omegas ECU memory. If it does I'll just have to get the trusty ECU programmer back out. Nevertheless I'll still get to take the old girl for a drive on Christmas day when the roads are empty ;-)

Christmas day seems to be one of the busyest days on the roads around here nowdays. If the world ends, it ends. Just make sure you are within the arms of your loved one(S) if it does :)  :y
