Title: Gritter Vs Jag
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 12 December 2012, 10:38:03
ARRRGHHH!

Last night, dual carriageway. (Golden Valley Bypass). Gritter was travelling in lane 1 - spreading. It was only doing around 50mph, so I decided to pass it, which I did at around 60mph.

Turns out that was a mistake, and I should have held well back, even if it meant staying at grandad speed.

I heard an awful noise, like a stone coming up.. and I have TWO chips in the screen of the Jag, which were definitely not there before.

I doubt there is any recourse, just one of those things, time for my insurance to take a hit I guess! (I know it's free, but a glass claim won't help me come renewal time)..

I'm pretty sure it's only free if they repair the screen James, if they have to replace it then it's more than likely you will have an excess to pay.

You also might want to carefully check your paintwork. That stuff can be like driving through a shotblast cabinet. ;)

As the front of my car proves - I must have been past a dozen of the things on the M40 going to & from Solihull in October/November :(

Could be worse - I cycled to work yesterday and met one coming towards me. I had just enough time to dive for cover behind a parked car, so I only got a few stray lumps...  ;D

Three members of ABS were coming back from an early season show all in LC,s a few years ago. The gritter was in the middle lane of the motorway doing 40mph. To pass with no pebble dashing occuring, they all took to the hard shoulder :) :y

IIRC that's only a short stretch between GCHQ and GV Hotel, isn't it? (Or is it the other one with the M5 junction?). Patience is a virtue, so they say. Too late now though. Sorry to hear about the bad luck. But hey, life is one big learning curve eh.
 ;)

Ah yes. It's been a while since I was in that area. Anyway, hope this episode doesn't hurt the pocket too badly  ;)
