With so much "heavy" news at the moment, let us recall our favourite Film Orchestral Soundtracks of all time that can allow us to drift away from real life and purely enjoy.
What are your top 4? Yes 4, as it is unlikely you can settle for less! :y :y
Number One, Out Of Africa, a most compelling romantic film based on a true story, with fabulous actors and this wonderful theme music often played whilst you see stunning African scenes:

Number Two, Schindlers List,a film that brings the horrors of Nazism home and guaranteed will leave you in tears:

Number Three, Lawrence Of Arabia that will forever remain as a classic film showing the determination of one British Army Officer:

Number Four, The main theme music, Aces High, at the start of the Battle Of Britain. It is played throughout the film in increasingly pessimistic tones as the Luftwaffe air crews steadily lose their confidence and arrogance as the brave young men of the RAF fight against all the odds

That is THE scene in my mind Andy that focuses the whole sickening story :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
I have recently seen a documentary on how citizens of Soviet states joined the German SS regiments in their push across the CCCP, and one piece of film shows how Jewish mothers were rounded up and separated from their children..........you can see one toddler being pushed away from its mother by this uniformed thug........the child not knowing what to do constantly tries to get back to his mother, only to be repeated kicked away.............it is absolutely heart wrenching, and you know you cannot help that poor child back in history......... :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I've just finished reading The Girl In The Red Coat by Roma Ligocka which I bought recently in Krakow. She tells the story of what it was like being a young Jewish child in Krakow during WWII. The title came from when she saw Schindler's List and that little girl reminded her of herself. It really gives you a feel for what it must have been like at the time.

Can't think of three without burning out my four remaining brain cells, Lizzie.......but I quite like the sixties soundtrack from "Catch me if you can." The one with Tom Hanks and the blond kid. :-* :-* :-*

You beat me to it Opti!! ;D ;D ;D

Lizzie. Right at the start of The Ipcress file, the film shows a steam train leaving a major station (in London I believe). The film was made in 1965, so this surprised me a little.
I thought that the age of steam was long gone by this time. :'(

No, it was going in that year of 1965 from the Western Region, but would not go from the Southern Region until 1967, then finally from the Midland and Eastern Regions in 1968. Then it was all over with the famous fifteen guinea specials that saw the final scheduled steam services. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Yes, indeed. Went to a concert featuring the star wars music played by the London Philharmonic with narration by Anthony Daniels a couple of years back.
Mrs. KW and I walked up the aisle to an adaptation of the Throne Room march from Star Wars. Ok, I'll stop now as it makes me sound like a geek (hint: the suspension on my trailer has never been the same since I used it to shift Mrs. KW's collection of Star Wars paraphernalia).
I've always liked the Lord of the Rings soundtrack too.

Must say I agree with John Williams' efforts, the Mission and Lord of the Rings :y
Would also add 'Dances with Wolves', such a haunting soundtrack.
Samuel Barbers Adagio for strings is a personal favourite which crops up all over the place, and always to good effect 8)
Morse is an exceptional series well worth a mention of its own :y Beautifully crafted, with such well chosen pieces of music 8) nearly sobbed when Morse died in the last episode. The end of an era :'(

The Blues Brothers :y :y
