Title: PC problem
Post by: RobG on 15 December 2012, 20:25:53
Running Windows 7 Premium 64-bit. IE9. When I open another tab I get the page showing "most viewed" sites, then a window pops up saying IE has stopped working (although it hasn`t). I can`t close the window then the tab page shows that IE couldn`t recover the web page. After about 5 mins I can eventually shut the page. Only happens with IE not with Chrome or Firefox. Any solutions apart from scrapping IE

I dont know much about computers Rob, but if I'm stumped by anything like this I always try deleting and reinstalling. Got me out of a few holes and is really not that much hassle.
Better tthan waiting for an answer on here on a Saturday night.

Could be a Security Update didn't finish installing properly, check your Windows update history etc, could also try a fresh Install of IE as suggested, completely remove the old install first and probably wouldn't hurt to do a Disk Drive Check for errors and maybe run a full Malwarebytes check.

Tried that. They claim to have found in excess of 5000 faults :o and will fix it if I subscribe. BS.Uninstalled and re-installed IE9, still the same. Got to the stage now that if I open a new tab everything freezes and I`ve got to do a forced restart

CCleaner (The real one) works Rob, is free and shouldn't ask for an upgrade, download the free version only from their website here-

Same for Malwarebytes -

I concur Rob, CCleaner - free version - is a very useful tool, especially useful for clearing out unwanted Windows c**p. I also has a useful registry cleaner. :y

The very first time you do it, it can take ages, especially on the registry analysis. Be patient. Once done, do it again immediately. It may pick up more.

Are you logged on as Admin? where has the IE9 come from, Diisk or Download is it the 64 bit version, could be you have an older version prior to your Win7 SP1 or recent Win Updates and it doesn't like it.

Check your Win7 System is up to date, from memory you can install IE9 from an system update.

Did you run a Malwarebyte scan Rob, if so run it again in Safe Mode, you could also try installation IE9 again also in Safe Mode.
