Title: 2.2 petrol cat needed - possibly
Post by: dazzle72 on 17 December 2012, 14:06:07
Just had the codes read as the eml was on, and we have a faulty cat. The blow on the exhaust was confirmed to be the manifold, which could explain the code for the cat. Can I get pattern gasket/s, or is it best to get genuine? And if I need a cat, wheres best? And not being a mechanic myself, would anyone close to Newark, Notts be willing to give me a price to fit please?

What ever you do, don't replace the cat, pattern ones are awful.

If its blowing around the manifold, could well be the gasket. Make sure you get decent multi-layered one.

MarksDTM is in your area, he might be willing to take a look  :y

Thanks for the advice. Just had the manifold shield off, and it looks like theres a bolt where there should be a stud (nearest the front of the car) So its possibly been bodged for some reason, but whatever reason it is its waaaaaaaay beyond my technical ability to sort

Drop a PM to MarksDTM  :y

Sounds like bolt to exhaust manifold has sheared off, maybe due to previous work. Not going to help with seal on the gasket, good thing on 4 pots is plenty of room in engine bay  :)
