Had a disaster this weekend....firstly ran over a pheasant....must be almost oven ready by the feathers in the air behaind me, then on the way to Banbury, hit a bag full of discarded rubbish wrapped in a big sheet. Could not avoid due to oncoming traffic.
This plastic sheet has stuck to the cat and exhaust. Stinks like hell. I have got the car on ramps, and cut away as much as I can. However, I knew one the cats was getting rusty, but this plastic has stuck to it and I now have a hole. There is no time now to get a new one on. Can I wire brush the cat and plug the hole with something so we don't get carbon monoxide poisoning. As the plastic has melted like a covering to the exhaust pipes, are the fumes harmful ???
I understand pattern cats are no good, so does that mean arm and a leg job from vauxhalls. I assume the cats from Europarts are what you call pattern !!
Thanks in advance
Tony

Go to the parts for sale section as their is a few cars being broken and you might be able to get a pair of good cats from there. :y

Back to basics, you have made a hole in an exhaust, so you should be able to repair it. I am not too sure about welding, but a decent repair with an exhaust bandage has to be do-able. Perhaps even drill a series of holes & use self-tappers to secure a patch?

I'd get a known good from the likes of Pinky or Albs or RobG (depending who is closest).
Don't buy pattern cats. Ever.
