Just pulling off the drive about a hour or so ago, cleared the gate and swung into full righthand lock to avoid the b**** that always barks opposite my drive and there was a noise, it sounded like I had clipped the fairing on the kirb kinda noise but i hadn't the as i tried to pull away all became clear NO POWER STEERING. Now my first reaction was to wrestle the car to the kirb and have a quick look-see but the belt was still there and pump pully turning. checked the P/S fluid and its full but no sign of fulid returining to the resivour. So whats peoples thoughts on this befor I start pulling the thing to bits and ordering parts? Im thinking either steering box seals are fubar or indeed the pump is, and advice please as I'm use to oil burning Land Rovers....

If it has gone suddenly and it hasn't been making any noise at all recently, my first thought would be to check the fuse. If it has gone replace and have a look at the alternator output isn't too high or spiking :y

I agree with Guffers, the fuse is always the first thing to check, I had one blow once. Can't remember which one, but it lives in the triangular box under the bonnet if memory serves.

Well checked the fuses both in the triangular box in the engine bay and in the drivers compartment, all seem to be fine.
Not had any noises from it since i bought it 3 weeks ago but at was a bit sluggish from startup but a quick blip of the throttle sorted it.

Any ideas??

It's not unheard of for a power steering pump to get 'tired' & need replacing, especially as blipping the throttle helped (pump speeds up too). You could try a fluid change first though & see how you get on.

Doesn't the fuse only relate to servo tronic though?

i thought this as well if you pull the fuse dont you get either maximum or minimum assistance (cant remember which way round) i think its what TB has stated that the pump is getting tired and needs replacing, as said if you increase revs it gets it up to speed :y

Might be, that if it's forced into full lock for too long, that the release in pressure is lock is released could be the noise you heard. ...? And that finished off the pump.
They don't like full lock for long periods.
It's quite a sudden failure for a part that tends to decline in performance over a longer period in time though.
But if increasing revs brings the assistance back then that's defo pump.

Sounds like the pumps gone U.S.
changing the fluid want make any difference,.
think a new/used pump is needed, and 2.5/3.0L pumps are different to 2.6/3.2 pumps.
